Audacy is restructuring its podcasting operations as it will shut down Pineapple Street Studios and laying off 30 staffers from the division.
Audacy had acquired Pineapple Street Studios and fellow studio Cadence 13 in August 2019. Cadence 13 was then combined with 2400 Sports and rebranded as Audacy Podcasts. This move follows Leah Reis-Dennis’ promotion from VP/Podcast Content, Strategy, and Business Development to Head of Podcasts in March. She succeeded Pineapple Street co-founder Jenna Weiss Berman in the role.
Variety, which first reported the shutdown, says that some of Pineapple Street Studios productions including the official “Severance” podcast produced for Apple TV will move to the Audacy Podcasts division. The studio produced many shows for television networks and brands along with original content.
An Audacy spokesperson said, “This difficult decision aligns our resources with our core strengths and the most promising growth areas for our podcasting business. We’re sorry to say goodbye to talented colleagues and are grateful for their contributions.”
