iHeartMedia Makes Region Leadership Changes

iHeartMediaiHeartMedia has announced a revamp of its regional Markets Group leadership with a series of promotions and two exits from the company.

John Karpinski has been promoted to President of iHeartMedia Community Markets. Karpinski, who rose to Division President in October 2024, previously served as EVP/Sales and Operations for iHeartMedia’s strategic partnerships and EVP/Automotive Business Development and Partnerships for the company. He will report to Markets Group COO Bernie Weiss with Community Markets Division President Shosh Abromovich reporting to him.

Carolina Region Metro President Dave Carwile will become Division President of the newly created Midwest & Southeast Division. Carwile will oversee Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, Greensboro, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and St. Louis. He has been with the company and its predecessors since 1993 holding leadership roles in markets including Norfolk, Richmond, and Charlotte before rising to regional management positions across Virginia and the Carolinas.

Washington DC Market President Aaron Hyland rises to Division President overseeing Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston and Hartford. Hyland joined iHeart Washington in 2013 as VP/Sales. He rose to Baltimore Market President in 2018 and took over the Washington cluster in 2019. He has also served as Market Manager for Cumulus in Fort Walton Beach FL and Hudson Valley NY.

With the restructuring, two former Division Presidents are exiting the company.

Dan Lankford exits after 26 years with the company most recently overseeing 43 markets across 14 states. He previously held roles as Region President for Allentown/Harrisburg PA and Market President in Akron, Mansfield and Sandusky OH and New Castle PA. Prior to joining the company, Lankford led multiple markets for Great Scott Broadcasting and was General Manager of WXRV Boston.

DJ Hodge departs as Division President overseeing Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. Hodge added oversight of Pittsburgh in September 2022 after serving as Market President in Cincinnati since 2017. Hodge joined the company in 2013 as General Sales Manager and then SVP/Sales after time with Learfield Sports and Sysco Foods.
