Eagle Media is looking for a driven, dependable and versatile News Reporter and Sportscaster to serve our Manhattan and Junction City markets.
This position will be responsible for day-to-day local news coverage for our three radio stations in Manhattan and Junction City, as well as our digital news platforms, LittleApplePost.com and JCPost.com. The right candidate will be curious, organized, community-minded, and able to tell local stories clearly across radio, web, and social media.
This person will also serve as the voice of the Junction City High School Bluejays, providing live play-by-play coverage for football, basketball, baseball, and softball on air and online. Strong live broadcasting skills, preparation, and the ability to bring energy and professionalism to local sports coverage are essential.
In addition, this role includes daily programming responsibilities for KJCK 1420 AM/107.9 FM, featuring the best of the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Key Responsibilities
The News Reporter/Sportscaster will:
• Cover local news in Manhattan, Junction City, and the surrounding area
• Write, record, and deliver news content for radio and digital platforms
• Conduct interviews with local leaders, newsmakers, coaches, athletes, and community members
• Post timely, accurate stories to LittleApplePost.com and JCPost.com
• Provide live play-by-play coverage for Junction City High School football, basketball, baseball, and softball
• Prepare for broadcasts by researching teams, players, storylines, statistics, and schedules
• Assist with daily programming duties for KJCK 1420 / 107.9
• Represent Eagle Media professionally at games, meetings, community events, and station functions
• Work with sales, programming, and digital teams to support station and market goals
Experience
The right candidate will have:
• Strong written and spoken communication skills
• Experience with live play-by-play sports broadcasting
• Solid interview skills and natural curiosity
• Good news judgment and attention to accuracy
• Comfort working on a deadline
• Ability to write clean, clear, local stories for digital and broadcast use
• Strong on-air presence
• Dependability, organization, and a willingness to be involved in the community
• Audio production, board operation, or radio programming experience preferred
Salary:
Compensation is commensurate with experience along with a competitive benefits package including health insurance, 401k, paid vacation, and employee stock ownership plan.
