FCC Report 10/4: 28 Licenses Surrendered In One Week

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
October 4, 2026

License Cancellations

FCC Seal 2020 Federal Communications CommissionIn the course of one week, 28 full-power AM or FM licenses have been surrendered back to the FCC.

One-third of the license surrenders were Rufus Resources’ nine stations making up its Classic Country “No Bull Radio” in South Texas as the organization transitioned to a streaming-only platform. The licenses turned in by Rufus were: 92.1 KCAF-FM Kenedy, 95.3 KVWG-FM Dilley, 96.9 KWYU Christine, 100.1 KQBQ Myersville, 103.9 KBQQ Smiley, 104.3 KUFA Hebbronville, 105.9 KIBQ Austwell, 1280 KMFR/94.7 K234DG Pearsall, and 1490 KIBL/97.1 K246CP Beeville TX.

Another organization was responsible for ten of the deletions as Hispanic Target Media turned in ten of the twenty four licenses it held with most operating as part of its Regional Mexican “Radio Amigo” network. They turned in: 93.5 KGWT George West TX, 93.7 KXFS Rankin TX, 94.9 KHMZ Snyder TX, 95.1 KHMJ Troma CA, 99.3 KEHM Colorado City TX, 102.5 KXAM San Diego TX, 102.7 KQHM Zapata TX, 104.3 KPQG Goliad TX, 105.7 KOHM Ridgecrest CA, and 107.7 WAJP Perry FL.

Also surrendering their licenses this week were:

  • Kimtron Inc.’s 850 WXJC Birmingham AL
  • Rubin Broadcasting’s 610 KAVL Lancaster CA
  • Choice Radio Corporation’s 1450 WWXL Manchester KY
  • Local Media Boston’s 1510 WMEX Quincy MA
  • Blue Jey Broadcasting’s 870 WLVP Gorham ME
  • Latino Media Network’s 870 KLSQ Whitney NV
  • Mount Rich Media’s 1380 WBTK Richmond VA
  • Mel Wheeler Inc.’s 610 WPLI Roanoke VA
  • WKLC Inc.’s 1340 WMON Montgomery WV

FCC Actions

The FCC has approved two modifications to the vacant Table of FM Allotments.

The Class A allocation on 97.5 Whitehall MI will be moved to 99.5 to clear short-spacing requirements to three stations. Previously utilized by Cumulus Media’s WLAW-FM until it was surrendered earlier this year, the 97.5 allocation was short-spaced to 96.9 WLAV-FM Grand Rapids by ten kilometers, 97.5 WJIM-FM Lansing by ten kilometers, and 98.1 WKLT Kalkaska by four kilometers.

The commission also deleted the Class A allocation on 105.5 Selmer TN for not complying with the minimum distance separation requirements as the allocation is nine kilometers short-spaced to 105.5 WVNA-FM Muscle Shoals AL.

Silent Notifications

  • New Ground Broadcasting’s 1480 WYZE Atlanta GA (Disagreement over diplex with 1260 WMDG)
  • New West Broadcasting’s 670 KPUA Hilo HI (Transmitter failure)
  • Henrico County Schools’ 91.1 WHCE Highland Springs VA (STL computer equipment failure)
  • Community Sustaining Fund’s 89.7 KVRJ McCleary WA (Poor coverage)

FM Changes

Beasley Media Group applies to move three of its Boston FMs from the Prudential Tower in downtown to one of the towers along I-95 in suburban Newton where it will join its other two FMs.
