GenX Radio Gen X 106.1 The Twister Tulsa KTGX Country KVOO K95.5 KWEN

Update 7/3 1:15pm: As we’ve been expecting for a couple weeks now, Clear Channel launched “106.1 The Twister” at noon today. Listen to the launch at FormatChange.com.

The current intensive Country format’s first hour featured:
Carrie Underwood – Blown Away
Tim McGraw – Truck Yeah
Kenny Chesney – Out Last Night
Brantley Gilbert – You Don’t Know Her Like I Do
Rascall Flatts – Life Is A Highway
Eli Young Band – Even If It Breaks Your Heart
Miranda Lambert – Gunpowder & Lead
Love And Theft – Angel Eyes
Toby Keith – Beers Ago
Sugarland – Settlin’
Luke Bryan – Drunk On You
Dustin Lynch – Cowboys And Angels
Zac Brown Band – Chicken Fried
Kristen Kelly – Ex-old Man
Craig Morgan – Redneck Yacht Club
Lady Antebellum – Wanted You More

Update 7/3 11:00am: KTGX began stunting this morning with a block of Christmas music. That was followed with an hour of Bruce Springsteen and then Cross Canadian Ragweed’s “Boys From Oklahoma”. A little after 10:00am the station began airing the audio of the movie “Twister” in its entirety. The music was interspersed with liners indicating “A Twister Is Coming, And It’s Gonna Be An F5”. A Facebook page for the new “Twister” format is already live.

Update 6/21: Clear Channel has added a second domain registration of 1061TheTwister.com. Based on today’s monthly ratings trend release it wouldn’t be much to go out on a limb and say a flip is imminent.

Original Report 6/20: A flip to Country “Twister” appears imminent at Clear Channel’s “Gen X Radio 106.1” KTGX Tulsa.

Twister1061.com was registered yesterday by Clear Channel and currently has an artificial redirect to sister “South 106.1” WSTH Columbus, GA. However the actual source of where the domain will be pointed can be seen here.

This will give Tulsa its third Contemporary Country outlet joining Cox’ “K95.5” KWEN and Journal’s 98.5 KVOO. The former ranked second in the most recent list of Arbitron subscribing stations in the market with an 8.4 share. KVOO does not subscribe so its current share is not known. Journal also has Classic Country “Big Country 99.5” KXBL further muddying the waters. GenX trailed with a 2.3 share. Clear Channel owns a similarly branded “Twister” in Oklahoma City.

With the sale of Renda’s two stations in Tulsa to Journal about to close could this merely be the first strike to counter pending moves at Journal or Cox?
