Following their purchase of three Macon GA area stations, Creek Media has announced it will flip Classic Hits 100.9 WNEX-FM Perry to AAA “The Creek 100.9” on Friday, July 8.
The new format is described by 11thHourOnline.com as an “Americana music format and aim to globally broadcast the best of the South’s roots music, thoughtful programming and city insight from Macon, Georgia as an independently-owned and operated radio station.”
The Creek will be part of a network of businesses operated by the three partners of the new ownership group: Star Motel Records, which is a local record label and recording studio, bi-weekly newspaper 11th Hour, and Moonhanger Group which operates multiple restaurants in Macon and manages the Cox Capitol Theatre. The group plans on adding a performance space and record store along with the radio stations.
Creek Media is purchasing WNEX-FM along with 980 WPGA Perry and 1400 WNEX Macon from Register Communications’ bankruptcy receiver for $790,000.
The launch of The Creek will take place at 10:09am on July 8. WNEX-FM had flipped to its current Classic Hits format in September 2015.
