iHeartMedia’s Aloha Stations Trust II has sold Classic Hits “Rewind 105.5” WWRW Mount Sterling/Lexington KY to Clarity Communications for $340,000.
Led by Charles Cohn, the buyer owns Lexington rimshot Classic Country “Hank 96.1” WLXO Stamping Ground KY.
Following the sale of WWRW, the Aloha Stations Trust will still retain five licenses needed to be divested: 104.7 KABQ Bosque Farms/Albuquerque NM, 94.5 WYDB Englewood and 106.5 WRZX Greenville OH in the Dayton market, and 1230 WIRO Ironton OH and 1600 WZZW Milton WV in the Huntington/Ashland market. iHeartMedia also has three other stations in separate divestiture trusts: 1430 WKOX Everett/Boston MA, 104.9 KTDD Eatonville/Tacoma WA, and 100.3 KSNR Fisher MN/Grand Forks ND.
Isn’t Clarity Communications owner of WLXO in name only? Reality likely is Lynn Martin will be managing 105.5 as they do with 96.1. And if I’m not mistaken, another Clarity owns an LM managed FM in Charleston SC too.
Trivia buffs might note that when 96.1 and 105.5 both moved into Lexington in the spring of 2000, they were “competitors” in the Oldies format. Not that Ross Love ever put much into the operation of 96.1.
The not so hard to believe story I heard was that the PD wanted the fall 2000 book promotion at Oldies 96.1 WLXO to be passes for two free games of bowling at Eastland Lanes to the first caller when the station played the Kingsmen’s “Louie Louie.”
