At Monday’s Board of Trustees meeting to vote on Lansing Community College’s budget, school president Dr. Brent Knight stated that the station will continue operating as opposed to ceasing operations at the end of the month.
However, CityPulse reports that WLNZ had its operational budget sliced to $0 in the new budget. Knight did not specify how the station would keep operating with no budget, which was approved after trustee Samantha Vaive was given the understanding “that the school is doing some creative thinking on the radio station so it will not go dark.
Original Report 6/17: Lansing Community College’s “LCC Radio” 89.7 WLNZ Lansing MI will cease operations at the end of the month.
WLNZ has been operating with just automation since the school’s campus was closed in mid-March. Station Manager Daedalian Lowry told WKAR that the station lost all of its funding from the college and the paid staff will be furloughed. Most of the station’s programming came from students and around 30 local volunteers.
The college did not confirm the shutdown, other than tell WKAR the trustees will vote on a final budget by the end of the fiscal year.
