When Tom and Desire Hoyt’s WCJW LLC closes on its $126,600 purchase of AC “V98.3” WVIN Bath NY on June 1, it will flip the station to a simulcast of its Country “CJ Country” 1140 WCJW Warsaw NY.
WCJW is also heard on six translators: 100.9 W265DQ Alden, 100.9 W265BX Geneseo, 103.7 W279BO Warsaw, 104.3 W282BQ Avon, 105.5 W288BZ Batavia, and 104.9 W285EZ Arcade covering much of Western New York between Buffalo and Rochester. The Hoyts purchased WCJW last Fall for $750,000.
With the sale closing comes the retirement of longtime morning host Dave Taylor Smith. Smith has hosted mornings at WVIN since August 1989 as part of a radio career that started in 1970. Outgoing owner Dawn Ichikawa told the Hornell Sun, “The new owners hoped to have the support of Dave Taylor Smith and offered him a generous package that included increased salary, bonuses, and additional airtime. The family, along with the new owners, are saddened that Dave chose not to continue with the station. Dave and Cassandre Wilcox will continue to be paid through the end of the month as the new owners prepare to take over the station.”
