Magnum Broadcasting has relaunched Country 92.5 WBWI West Bend/Milwaukee as “Buzz Country” WMBZ.
The 92.5 signal rimshots the Milwaukee market from the northwest. In December Magnum flipped sister 92.1 WEZY Racine to Country as “Q92” WMKQ to cover the southern parts of the market. While both stations have unique Country formats and brands, Mike Sommers serves as PD for both. Magnum acquired both stations from Bliss Communications last year.
Owner/President Dave Magnum stated, “We nicknamed a station Buzz several years ago then flipped formats but hung on to buzzcountry.com with hopes of redeploying it someday. Infusing stationality into this big signal that touches 20 counties was important to us, so we commissioned an artist in Boston to originate the Buzz character. Another key was to create a clear distinction between the imaging of Buzz Country 92.5 and Continuous Country Q92.1.” Magnum previously utilized said “Buzz Country” brand on what is now Classic Rock 94.5 WTMB Tomah, WI.
Concurrently sister 1470 WBKV West Bend has dropped News/Talk for Full Service Classic Hits branded as “Kool Variety“.
