The Dallas/Fort Worth Country war will soon see another entrant as Clear Channel looks ready to flip Rock “97.1 The Eagle” KEGL to Country. was registered by Clear Channel on September 1 and is already redirecting to KEGL’s website. A shift to Country for the struggling Rocker could be a preemptive strike against Cumulus. Once the merger with Citadel closes, Cumulus will own both Country outlets in the market: “99.5 The Wolf” KPLX and “New Country 96.3” KSCS. With The Bull in place, Cumulus may reconsider replacing one of the Country stations with a format that could compete with one of Clear Channel’s other stations in the market.

In addition to 97.1 KEGL, Clear Channel also owns CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS, Hot AC “Mix 102.9” KDMX, Modern Rock “102.1 The Edge” KDGE, Classic Rock “Lonestar 92.5” KZPS, and Talk “DFW 1190” KFXR in the Dallas/Ft. Worth market.
