Meruelo Media has pulled the plug on Urban “Wild 93.5” KDEY Ontario CA and has restored the simulcast with Classic Hip-Hop 93.5 KDAY Redondo Beach/Los Angeles after just seven months.
The Wild format became redundant in Meruelo’s portfolio after the acquisition of “Power 106” 105.9 KPWR Los Angeles whose coverage overlapped with KDEY. Meruelo had run tests in 2016 to determine the amount of interference the two co-channel signals would create to one another before launching the Wild format in March.
The simulcast restoration took place at 2pm today.
Meruelo Media has announced that 93.5 KDAY Hip Hop Back in the Day will simulcast on 93.5 KDEY-FM in the Inland Empire effective immediately. This will extend 93.5 KDAY’s signal and coverage to the Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
Meruelo Radio Vice President Programming, Jimmy Steal said, “We’re pleased to bring 93.5 KDAY, Hip Hop Back in the Day, back to the Inland Empire.”

In addition to extended signal reach, 93.5 KDAY has posted a highly targeted outdoor campaign and launched a refreshed digital platform. The Meruelo Media consolidation has provided 93.5 KDAY with additional resources, including an extended social media and digital team.

Yikes! That was fast! And a good move by Mereulo now that KPWR is their sister Station.
Interesting that they’re limiting streaming to the Inland Empire/OC/LA area.
The KDAY stream is geofenced because all those fanboys on the East Coast matter nothing to advertisers in the Southland.
