Larry Wilson has stepped down as Chairman of Alpha Media.

Wilson, who has led Alpha Media since its formation, will remain a member of the company’s Board of Directors. What became Alpha Media was formed in 2009 when Alpha Broadcasting purchased CBS Radio’s and Rose City Radio’s stations in Portland OR. A second group, L&L Broadcasting was formed by Wilson in 2012 with the acquisition of Triad Broadcasting. The companies merged in 2014 as Alpha Media after rapid growth through the acquisitions of many of YMF Media’s stations, Morris Broadcasting, Palm Beach Broadcasting, and Digity Media.

Wilson also co-founded Citadel Broadcasting in 1984 and ran that company through its sale to private equity company Forstmann Little & Company in 2001.

Alpha Media has announced that respected radio giant Larry Wilson is stepping down as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Oregon-based broadcast company. He will remain a member of the Board.

Under Wilson’s guidance, Alpha Media has become the largest privately-owned radio broadcast company in the United States, operating 225 radio stations in 48 markets across the nation. Wilson is also known for his work within the country music industry, having served on the Board of Directors for the Country Music Association from 1991 to 2001 and inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014. Wilson has been recognized for his exemplary work in broadcast and voted “Executive of the Year” by Radio Ink in 2002 and 2016. Most recently in 2018, Wilson ranked eleventh in Radio Ink’s annual 40 Most Powerful People in Radio, a distinction he has received multiple times over the years.
