Princeton Broadcasting Service’s Freeform 103.3 WPRB Princeton NJ has announced the creation of an Executive Director and appointment of Michael Lupica to the position.
Lupica has served as an Educational Advisor for WPRB since 2011 after previously holding roles as Special Events Director for 91.1 WFMU East Orange and as an engineer for New York Public Radio. The station notes that the position was created to “drive further stability, continuity, and growth for the 86-year-old, freeform, independent radio station.” Lupica’s first goal will be to allow for the reintegration of the station’s community DJs with Princeton University’s student DJs. The community volunteers have been using a separate off-campus studio since the start of the COVID pandemic in 2020 as university policy changes led to the community volunteers not permitted onto campus buildings.
Lupica commented, “Great community radio stations don’t waste time lamenting the loss of bygone eras. ‘Right now’ is always the best time to be involved, and by supercharging the energy of our present moment, my hope is to propel WPRB into a forever home where our programmers can freely pursue the creative impulse.”
WPRB Trustee Dan Ruccia stated, “WPRB has always been about the transformative power of freeform radio. For the past 15 years, Mike Lupica has had a profound role in shaping the educational experiences for our student leaders. We are beyond excited to see him bring that same energy to our operations as a whole.”
WPRB’s is a Class B commercial FM license operated by an independent non-profit on a college campus. It’s signal covers portions of both New York City and Philadelphia
