Saga Communications Hot AC “Mix 95.9” WMXZ Isle of Palms/Charleston SC has announced the sudden passing of Program Director Mike Edwards, who also served as the “Guy” on its “Two Girls & A Guy” morning show.
Co-hosts Brooke Ryan and Tanya Brown shared on Instagram that after Edwards failed to show up for work this morning they called the police for a wellness check who found him dead in his home.
Edwards first arrived in Charleston in 1999 as Program Director of CHR “95 SX” WSSX where he hosted afternoons as ‘Just Plain Mike’. He would launch the “Two Girls and Guy” brand before he, Ryan and Brown becoming the longest running trio under the name at WSSX. He and Brown would then spend time in mornings at Alpha Media’s “Live 95.5” KBFF Portland in 2013-14, while Ryan joined “The Jack Diamond Morning Show” at WRQX Washington DC. In 2014, the trio joined the then-Apex Broadcasting owned WMXZ to resurrect the show with Edwards later serving as Apex’s VP/Programming until its sale to Saga.
Saga states, Mike, Brooke and Tanya and have been wildly successful entertaining our community ever since.
He was a multi-year winner of “Charleston’s Best Of’ Radio Morning Show and Local Radio Personality awards and a huge supporter of the Charleston Animal Society and Charleston Pride Week.”
