As we tipped off in our 2/12 Domain Insight, Cumulus Media has relaunched Country “93.1 Nash-FM” WDRQ Detroit as “New Country 93.1“.
With the revamp, afternoon host Bill ‘Broadway’ Bert will move his “Electric Barnyard” to mornings with Kristina ‘Krissy’ Williamson. Bert has previously hosted mornings at Country outlets WWYZ Hartford, WKIS Miami, and WDSY Pittsburgh during his career. Williamson joins WDRQ after previously hosting nights at iHeartMedia CHR “Channel 95.5” WKQI Detroit until last month’s cuts. She has also co-hosted mornings at “Hot 104.7” WHTP Portland ME and worked at WODS Boston. WDRQ had featured Cumulus’ syndicated Ty Bentli Show in mornings.
Josh ‘Bru’ Brubaker remains in middays, while Program Director Lance Tidwell will take the afternoon slot at WDRQ that had belonged to Broadway and Nights with Elaina remains at night. The relaunch was timed ahead of Garth Brooks’ show at the Detroit Lion’s Ford Field this weekend that the station is co-sponsoring.
93.1 WDRQ Detroit had flipped to Country as “93.1 Nash-FM” in December 2013 but has never had much success against Entercom’s 99.5 WYCD. In the December 2019 Nielsen Audio ratings WYCD’s 4.5 share to WDRQ’s 2.9
