Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.
Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Miami, Seattle, Detroit, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

There’s a pair of new kings in Seattle.
Classical 98.1 KING-FM jumps to third in the market with a 4.1 to 5.3 rise. Ratings expert Chris Huff notes that is KING-FM’s highest share since Winter 1995. The new king of Country is Hubbard “98.9 The Bull” KNUC. KNUC surges 3.2 to 4.6, while Entercom’s “100.7 The Wolf” KKWF is up 3.1 to 3.4.
The day 2 markets were led by surges at many Classic Hits and Variety Hits stations. The biggest gainer was Entercom’s “Sunny 98.1” KXSN San Diego, which returned to the market lead with a 5.4 to 6.8 rise. Other Classic/Variety Hits stations showing gains include: “94.7 The Drive” WIAD Washington DC (2.8 – 3.4), 104.3 WOMC Detroit (4.1 – 4.9), “95.5 The Mountain” KYOT Phoenix (5.5 – 6.3), “Kool 108” KQQL Minneapolis (6.4 – 7.3), “104.1 Jack-FM” KZJK Minneapolis (5.1 – 5.8), “Kool 105” KXKL Denver (4.0 – 4.6), “102.7 Jack-FM” WQSR Baltimore (4.7 – 5.4) and 103.3 KLOU St. Louis (8.2 – 8.7).
- Entercom’s new “Big 103” WBGB Boston, which launched in the second week of the period, debuted with a 1.5 share up from the 1.1 the former “103.3 Amp Radio” WODS had in May. Beasley’s Classic Hits 105.7 WROR rose 6.1 to 6.3 in the monthly.
- Howard University Adult R&B 96.3 WHUR Washington DC jumps 6.1 to 7.0 to narrow the gap with Radio One’s “Majic 102.3” WMMJ’s 7.1 share.
- Cumulus Conservative Talk 105.9 WMAL-FM remains in the DC lead despite a 9.3 to 8.2 drop. Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP holds in second with an 8.0 to 7.6 fall. Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU drops from third to fifth with a 7.4 to 6.8 drop.
- Manning Broadcasting Classic Hits “106.9 The Eagle” WWEG Myersville/Hagerstown MD continues its rise in the Washington market with a 1.4 to 1.9 gain.
- Cox Media Group Adult R&B “Hot 105” WHQT Miami continues its growth with a three month trend of 6.6 – 7.5 – 8.4.
- Bonneville News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM remains on top of Seattle with a 7.1 share. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK holds in second with a 6.7. Hubbard CHR “Movin 92.5” KQMV has one of the biggest slides of the month dropping 6.2 to 5.0.
- Also setting a station record in Seattle is Indie Rock 90.3 KEXP with a 2.5 to 2.7 rise.
- Beasley Media Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX returns to the Detroit market lead with a 5.4 to 6.7 jump. Also with a big gain is Entercom Country 99.5 WYCD with a 4.4 to 5.0 move.
- iHeartMedia AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ Phoenix is in its usual spot atop the Valley of the Sun and shows a 6.8 to 7.6 rise to go along with it.
- Huff notes a new station record for Minnesota Public Radio AAA “89.3 The Current” KCMP Minneapolis with its 4.9 to 5.0 rise.
- The early months of the pandemic were very beneficial to Public News/Talk 89.5 KPBS-FM San Diego. Since then its trend downward has been 8.5 – 7.1 – 5.5 falling from first to fourth this month.
- Cox Soft AC 105.5 WDUV Tampa keeps its lead with a 7.8 to 8.2 gain. Co-owned Classic Rock “107.3 The Eagle” WXGL falls from second to fourth with a 6.5 to 5.4 slide. Both Country stations in Tampa showed big gains with iHeartMedia’s “US 103.5” WFUS up 5.1 to 5.7 and Beasley’s 99.5 WQYK up 3.9 to 4.8.
- Bonneville Country 98.5 KYGO remains on top of Denver despite a 7.5 to 6.0 tumble. Nipping on its heels are iHeartMedia Classic Rock “103.5 The Fox” KRFX up 5.3 to 5.9 and Public News/Talk 90.1 KCFR up 5.7 to 5.8.
- iHeartMedia CHR “95.7 The Party” KPTT Denver rose 3.0 to 3.5 while newly flipped CHR “Hot 107.1” KFCO rose 1.1 to 1.3 after flipping in the second day of the monthly.
- Two stations in Baltimore had big jumps. iHeartMedia Country 93.1 WPOC has trended 4.4 – 5.6 – 6.9 to return to a second place tie. Ratings expert Chris Huff notes that Hearst’s “98 Rock” WIYY has its best share since the Summer of 1991 with a 5.7 to 6.5 gain.
- Radio One’s combo of Adult R&B “Magic 95.9” WWIN (10.5 to 9.6) and Hip Hop “92Q” WERQ (6.8 to 6.9) retain the lead in Baltimore.
- Hubbard Classic Rock 94.7 KSHE continues to dominate St. Louis with a 13.7 to 13.4 move. iHeartMedia Classic Hits 103.3 KLOU is second at 8.7. The biggest gainer in the market was Entercom Hot AC “Y98” KYKY with a 3.2 to 4.5 rise.
