Bloomberg Radio To Revamp Daily Schedule

November 17, 2023

Bloomberg RadioBloomberg Media has announced it will expand its television morning show “Bloomberg Surveillance” to its radio network.

Tom Keene, who has hosted the television program since its launch in 2008, will move to radio to team with Paul Sweeney from 7-10am. The show will also stream live on YouTub and be made available as a podcast. The show will remain focused on economics, finance, investment and international relations and feature longer news-making interviews and conversations. Bloomberg Radio’s Lisa Mateo and Michael Barr will be daily contributors.

The move is part of changes to bring Bloomberg Radio’s programming more in-line with their other media platforms. The daily political show “Sound On,” will be renamed as “Balance of Power” to match the television political show. Bloomberg Radio will also add two hours of podcast programming in evenings.

Bloomberg Radio is heard 24/7 on owned and operated 1130 WBBR New York, iHeartMedia’s 960 KNEW/103.7 KOSF-HD2 San Francisco, Audacy’s 99.1 WDCH Bowie MD/Washington DC and 105.7 WJZ-HD2 Catonsville/Baltimore MD, Beasley Media’s 1330 WRCA Watertown/92.9 WBOS-HD2/106.1 W291CZ Boston and O&O 1450 WNBP Newburyport/106.1 W291CC Haverhill MA plus SiriusXM channel 121 and on DAB in London UK.

Bloomberg Media today announced the expansion of its flagship morning program “Bloomberg Surveillance” to include a new radio show hosted by veteran Bloomberg anchor Tom Keene and the appointment of Annmarie Hordern as an anchor of the TV edition.

Keene, the original creator of “Bloomberg Surveillance” on Bloomberg Radio in 2008, will now lead the new “Bloomberg Surveillance” radio program co-hosted by Paul Sweeney. The program will air daily from 7am – 10am ET on radio, streaming live on YouTube, and will also be available as a podcast. The show will remain focused on economics, finance, investment and international relations and will feature longer news-making interviews and conversations. Bloomberg Radio’s Lisa Mateo and Michael Barr will be daily contributors.

In addition to his key role in “Surveillance”’s morning programming over the past fifteen years, Keene has spent more than two decades providing economic and investment perspective to BTV, and to Bloomberg’s various news divisions. Keene will develop special projects for video and audio, including a new weekly program set to premiere on BTV next year.

Jonathan Ferro will continue to lead the television version of “Bloomberg Surveillance” with Lisa Abramowicz. They will be joined by current “Bloomberg Balance of Power” co-anchor Annmarie Hordern, who will relocate from Washington to New York. Hordern has spent over a decade at Bloomberg breaking news and securing exclusive interviews with world leaders and newsmakers in politics, energy, the Middle East, and more.

Kailey Leinz will now co-host “Balance of Power” with Joe Mathieu. She was formerly a regular contributor to the show and covered financial regulation from Washington. All changes to the BTV lineup will be effective in early 2024.

“The US morning is such an important moment for us on our platforms,” said David Merritt, Head of Bloomberg Media Editorial. “We aim to provide the best news and analysis for our business-focused audience across video and audio at this pivotal time of day and these changes set us up to continue to grow our influence and reach.”

“Bloomberg Surveillance” will continue to bring our global audience daily insights on markets and the top business stories of the day, and also will expand coverage to include more robust macro-economic insights, C-suite guests, political coverage ahead of the 2024 election, and analysis and news impacting the most influential companies globally.

“This expansion of Bloomberg Surveillance will not only allow us to continue what we do best in our coverage of finance, monetary policy, and markets-– it will also allow us to expand our breadth of coverage in those critical morning hours,” says Julie Alnwick McHale, Global Head of Bloomberg Television. “Annmarie Hordern distinguished herself as a capable anchor on Balance of Power and has an unmatched appetite for breaking news. Bringing her to the show as our chief political correspondent will help us stay at the forefront of the conversation in an election year.”

Bloomberg Radio also announced changes impacting its daily lineup. “Sound On,” Bloomberg Radio’s daily program delivering insights on the latest headlines from the White House and Capitol Hill, will be renamed “Balance of Power” in line with Bloomberg TV’s politics-focused program. Bloomberg Radio will also be carrying two hours of Bloomberg podcast programming on Radio in the evening hours.

“We are excited at the expansion of Bloomberg Radio’s line-up to now include an audio specific version of Surveillance,” said Anthony Mancini, Head of Bloomberg Audio. “This unique morning program will prepare Wall Street commuters for the business day ahead while simultaneously bringing our live video streaming production to 11 hours daily.”
