People Moves 5/28: Entercom Makes Market Manager Changes In Pittsburgh & Washington

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
May 28, 2018

Entercom New Corporate LogoEntercom continue to revamp the markets it acquired from CBS Radio as two more Market Managers have exited the company.

The Philadelphia Business Journal confirms that Steve Swenson has exited as head of the company’s Washington DC cluster, a role he had held under CBS since 2011 after previously overseeing that company’s two All-News stations in New York. Phil Zachary, who moved from Entercom Boston to his native Hartford upon completion of the merger, will now relocate to Washington. Zachary oversaw Classic Rock 94.7 WARW and Alternative 99.1 WHFS for CBS Radio from 1996-2001 before becoming President/COO of Curtis Media Group.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported last week that Michael Young exited that role in Pittsburgh. Young had been with the cluster since 1996 and had been with CBS Radio since 1985. Director of Sales Michael Spacciapolli is serving as Interim Market Manager.

Maxwell Schaeffer is out of mornings at Saga Classic Hits 93.3 KIOA Des Moines after 23 years with the station. The Des Moines Register reports that the move happened earlier this month. Co-host Amy Sweet remains in place.

Dick Broadcasting Classic Rock “Wave 104.1” WYAV Myrtle Beach SC has announced that Production Director/Midday host David ‘Prez’ Spindler will retire on Thursday, May 31 after 25 years at the station.

After 25 years at heritage classic rocker Wave 104.1 (WYAV-FM) Myrtle Beach, market veteran midday personality and production director, David “Prez” Spindler has decided to hang up the headphones, and enjoy life on the beach.

Prez has been in the industry for 36 years with stops in Texas and Colorado, before coming to the Grand Strand.  WYAV Program Director says, “”Prez is a radio legend around here.  He is the great one.  Just ask him. Seriously, Prez is like family to me, I love him like a brother and I’ll miss him”.

“We wish Prez the best with where life takes him next, he’s spent a long time in the radio trenches, and will be missed” says DBC Operations Manager Charlie Steele.

Prez’s last day on the air will be 5/31.

Christy Taylor has exited nights at Riviera Hot AC “Hot 97.5” KMVA/103.9 KZON Phoenix stating she will be starting a new position in another market shortly. She previously worked most of her career in Alternative including stints as Program Director “91X” XETRA-FM Tijuana/San Diego, and Music Director at “Alt AZ 93.3” KDKB Phoenix, “Go 96.3” KQGO Minneapolis, and “104.9 The Edge” WZMR Albany NY.
