August 2019 (7/18 – 8/14) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 1: Majical Market Lead For KMJQ Houston

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
September 3, 2019

Majic 102.1 KMJQ HoustonNielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

All the numbers can be found at RadioInsight.com/Ratings.

Among the numbers of note for the August monthly:

  • Urban One R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ Houston jumps to the market lead with a 5.8 to 6.2 gain, while iHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA falls 6.6 to 5.9. Entercom Adult Hits “95.7 The Spot” KKHH jumps to third with a 5.0 to 5.7 rise.
  • iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW New York increases its lead to nearly two shares over Emmis R&B 107.5 WBLS as WLTW rises 6.8 to 7.7 and WBLS drops 6.3 – 5.8.
  • Also of note in New York, Educational Media Foundation’s 95.5 WPLJ dropped from 0.4 to not registering at all despite remaining a Nielsen subscriber. In all likelihood, the station is currently not encoding for PPM.
  • In what will be its final full monthly, Cumulus Alternative 104.5 KFOG San Francisco drops 1.1 to 1.0. Entercom’s competing “Alt 105.3” KITS rises 2.1 to 2.5. Both stations were up in San Jose as KFOG rose 1.6 to 1.8 and KITS 2.3 to 2.7.
  • As Cumulus Sports 680 KNBR San Francisco comes to FM, it does so with a third place showing as it rose 4.1 to 4.4, while the end of the NBA season takes its toll on Entercom’s “95.7 The Game” KGMZ as it falls 1.9 to 1.5. The lead was similarly sized in San Jose as KNBR registered a 3.6 to KGMZ’s 1.0.
  • In its final monthly before flipping to Spanish Rhythmic yesterday, Univision’s Rhythmic CHR “Hot 105.7/100.7” KVVF/KVVZ went out with a 2.6 share in San Jose and 0.9 in San Francisco.
  • With its new Spanish Rhythmic format debuting on the first day of the monthly survey, Meruelo Media’s “Cali 93.9” KLLI Los Angeles debuted with a 1.5 share up from its previous Regional Mexican “Radio Centro 93.9’s” 1.2 share in July. SBS’s competing “Mega 96.3” KXOL dropped from a 2.9 to 2.5, while both English Hip-Hop stations showed similar drops with Meruelo’s “Power 106” KPWR down 3.1 to 2.8 and iHeartMedia’s “Real 92.3” KRRL down 2.8 to 2.6.
  • iHearMedia CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS Dallas increases its market lead with a 5.8 to 6.7 jump. Salem Christian AC 94.9 KLTY continues to grow as it rises 5.1 to 5.5 for sole possession of second place.
  • The fairy tale summer for Salem Christian AC “104.7 The Fish” WFSH Atlanta comes to an end as the station falls from first to seventh with a 8.5 to 4.7 drop. EMF’s new 106.7 WALV was not the beneficiary as that station only grew from 0.2 to 0.4. Cox Media Group News/Talk “95.5 WSB” 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB regains the lead with a 6.6 to 7.6 gain.
  • Further down the list an under-the-radar gain for Clark Atlanta University’s Jazz 91.9 WCLK as its rises from a 1.4 to 2.0.
  • Hubbard Broadcasting continues to dominate the rankings in Chicago, but its stations swap places as Hot AC “101.9 The Mix” WTMX regains first after a month from Classic Rock “97.1 The Drive” WDRV as WTMX rises 5.2 to 5.7 and WDRV holds steady at 5.4.
  • You know football season is close as Entercom Sports 94.1 WIP Philadelphia jumps to second with a 5.9 to 6.7 gain nipping at the heels of Beasley Media Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK’s 6.9.
