People Moves 10/1: Steve Weed Retires As iHeart Central California Area SVP/Programming

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
October 1, 2019

iHeartMedia iHeart iHeartCommunicationsiHeartMedia Central California Area SVP/Programming Steve Weed has retired after a near 50 year career. Once known as ‘Smokin’ Steve Weed” at stations like WHBQ Memphis, KIIS-FM Los Angeles and WXLO New York, Weed later shifted to programming with runs at KHIT Seattle, WCZY and WKQI Detroit and WMXV/WDBZ New York before heading to Sacramento to launch CHR “107.9 The End” KDND where he stayed until the infamous Wii stunt. He later rebounded as OM of Mainline Broadcasting’s Dayton OH cluster before joining iHeart in 2010 as OM first of their Fresno cluster then moving to Sacramento. He returned to Fresno in 2015 as the Area SVP/Programming.

Jillian Gregg has resigned as morning co-host at Steel City Media Country “Q104” 104.3 KBEQ Kansas City. In an on-air statement, Gregg alluded that she had considered leaving six months ago after the exit of Hollywood reporter Mike Evans from the station and the way the company treated him and the listeners at that time. Gregg had been with KBEQ since 1996.

Paul Orr has exited nights at SummitMedia Country “100.3 The Wolf” WCYQ Knoxville to focus on his voiceover business. Orr was on his second stint with WCYQ after previously programming the station from 2009-2012. He has also programmed in Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Fort Myers, Oklahoma City and Shreveport.

Cumulus Media has announced that Shreveport LA Operations Manager and Hot AC “Q97.3” KQHN PD/afternoon host Jay Michaels will add programming duties for Country 101.1 KRMD.

Michaels joined the Cumulus Shreveport cluster in January to program KQHN. He rose to OM in late July to fill half of the duties held by Chip Arledge until his exit in April. With the addition of the PD duties at KRMD, Michaels now takes over the other half of Arledge’s former position.

CUMULUS MEDIA announces that Jay Michaels, Operations Manager, Cumulus Shreveport, has been named Program Director for Country station KRMD-FM. Michaels was named Operations Manager for Cumulus’ five-station group in Shreveport in July. He will continue in his current roles as Operations Manager for the cluster, and as Program Director and PM drive on-air personality for Cumulus Shreveport’s Hot AC station KQHN/Q97.3. Prior to joining Cumulus Shreveport in January, Michaels was Program Director for CUMULUS MEDIA’s WJJK and WYRG in Indianapolis, IN.

Aaron Criswell, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Shreveport-Bossier City, said: “Jay has demonstrated a high level of focus, passion and engagement for the Cumulus Radio Shreveport brands. I am excited he has accepted the responsibility to return KRMD-FM to the legendary ratings status it once held.”

Michaels said: “To say that KRMD is a heritage brand is an understatement. I’m excited to work closely and hands on with our talented air staff and reclaim our position as the dominant country leader in the marketplace.”
