Jimmy deCastro is retiring from his post as SVP/Market Manager of Entercom Chicago.
deCastro, who joined Entercom upon the completion of its acquisition of CBS Radio in November 2017, will remain in place through mid-December and a successor is in place. In addition to running Chicago, deCastro also oversaw local management in Madison and Milwaukee WI for Entercom.
DeCastro first came to Chicago in 1981 to be GM of 97.9 WLUP. He would later purchase the station as part of Evergreen Media, which would later merge with Chancellor Broadcasting to form AMFM. While President of AMFM, the company was bought and merged into Clear Channel in 2000. He has since served as President of AOL Interactive, founded The Content Factory which launched the Dan Patrick Show into syndication, and served as President/GM of Tribune Media News/Talk 720 WGN.
As first reported by Robert Feder, a successor will be named next week. deCastro told Feder, “I’m officially retiring after my contract is up — but I’ve flunked retirement three times. I definitely have plans on doing something else in the gaming business, and I’m excited about that opportunity.” deCastro owns sports marketing and consulting company After The Whistle and told Feder he plans to launch a new venture involving sports betting and gaming information.
