June 2020 (5/21 – 6/17) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 4:

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
July 10, 2020

107.9 The Mix WNTR IndianapolisThe fourth and final day of Nielsen Audio’s PPM releases bring Austin, Raleigh/Durham, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Nashville, Providence, Norfolk, Jacksonville, West Palm Beach, Greensboro, Memphis, and Hartford.

All the numbers can be found at RadioInsight.com/Ratings.

As quickly as Cumulus Media’s “107.9 The Mix” WNTR Indianapolis plummeted from a 2.8 – 2.0 – 0.7 during its month of Christmas music in April and early May, the station quickly rebounded this month to a 2.4 in its first full monthly as an AC. Hurt a bit by WNTR, Emmis AC “B105.7” WYXB retained its top spot in Indianapolis but dropped from a 9.6 to 8.8 share. Cumulus Classic Hits 104.5 WJJK rises to second with a 9.1 to 8.0 drop.

Also showing big trend upward in Indianapolis is Radio One CHR “Radio Now 100.9” WNOW-FM with a 1.3 – 1.8 – 2.5 move following the addition of Kidd Kraddick Show for mornings in March.

  • iHeartMedia Country 106.1 WMIL Milwaukee surges 6.5 to 8.7 to retake the market’s crown and what ratings expert Chris Huff says is its highest share since May 2015. The company also has the next three ranked stations. Conservative Talk 1130 WISN falls to a second place tie with a 8.6 to 7.2 drop matching Classic Hits “95.7 Big-FM” WRIT. Hip Hop “V100” WKKV is fourth with a 5.5 to 5.8 rise.
  • Waterloo Media Variety Hits “103.5 Bob-FM” KBPA pulls back ahead in Austin as its 8.4 – 8.5 rise is assisted by the end of the pandemic fueled jump of Public News/Talk 90.5 KUT-FM ending as it trends back down 9.8 – 8.5 – 7.8.
  • iHeartMedia Country “KASE 101” falls to its lowest share ever with a 3.6 to 3.0 drop. All of the Country stations in the market were down with iHeart’s 98.1 KVET-FM sliding 5.5 to 4.9 and Genuine Austin Radio’s 99.3 KOKE-FM down 1.7 to 1.2.
  • Radio One holds the top two spots in Raleigh as Adult R&B “Foxy 107/104” holds the lead despite a 9.9 to 8.9 drop. Gospel “103.9 The Light” WNNL moves up 6.2 to 7.3 to jump from sixth last month.
  • Also moving upward in Raleigh is Capitol Broadcasting AC “Mix 101.5” WRAL-FM with a 4.8 – 5.5 – 6.5 trend.
  • iHeartMedia Classic Rock “105.9 The Rock” WNRQ Nashville surges 5.1 to 7.8, which is only good enough to hit third in the market behind Midwest’s combo of AC “Mix 92.9” WJXA (8.2 – 8.4) and Variety Hits “96.3 Jack-FM” WCJK (7.8 – 8.1).
  • Entercom Adult R&B “95.7 R&B” WVKL Norfolk continues its utter dominance as its 12.2 share is well ahead of iHeartMedia’s second place Hip Hop “103 Jamz” WOW’s 7.3 and the third place tie of Max Media’s Country “97.3 The Eagle” WGH-FM and Entercom AC “101.3 2WD” WWDE at 4.6.
  • In its final monthly before becoming the most successful of iHeartMedia’s fifteen launch stations for “Black Information Network“, “Alt 105.3” WNOH Norfolk goes out with a 1.4 to 1.5 rise.
  • The top of the Jacksonville market slowly is returning towards the pack. Renda AC 96.1 WEJZ drops 10.7 to 10.2, while Cox News/Talk 104.5 WOKV-FM trends down 13.4 – 10.4 – 9.9.
  • Quietly becoming a strong player in Jacksonville is Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting Gospel “Praise 107.9” W300CU fed by iHeartMedia’s WKSL-HD3. Praise has trended up 2.5 – 2.7 – 3.1 to pull ahead of a few full-powered stations despite being just a 250 watt translator.
  • iHeartMedia Rock 94.1 WHJY Providence registers a 10.7 share as Chris Huff notes is its largest share since June 2011.
  • The June 1 frequency swap has not been an early help for either of iHeartMedia’s “Real Radio 92.1” WZZR or “Mia 94.3” WRLX West Palm Beach. WZZR dropped slightly 2.0 to 1.9, but WRLX was hit harder with a 3.0 to 2.3 slide despite the move to the bigger signal.
