Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.
Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Miami, Seattle, Detroit, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

iHeartMedia News/Talk 1030 WBZ has claimed a piece of the lead in Boston for the first time since its final diary book (Fall 2008) with a 6.1 to 7.2 gain. That ties it with Beasley Classic Hits 105.7 WROR, which rose 6.4 to 7.2. iHeartMedia CHR “Kiss 108” WXKS-FM drops to third 7.3 to 7.0, while Beasley’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM jumps to fourth thanks to the Patriots season starting with a 5.4 to 6.8 gain.
Huff notes that iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 680 WRKO Boston generates its biggest share since Summer 1998 with a 3.9 – 4.9 – 6.0 trend up to fifth overall. Huff also notes Northeast Broadcasting AAA “92.5 The River” WXRV sets its highest share ever with a 3.1 to 3.5 gain.
Entercom’s new Variety Hits “Big 103” WBGB jumps up 2.6 to 3.1, but sister AC “Magic 106.7” WMJX tumbles 6.7 to 5.1.
Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP Washington trends up 8.5 – 9.5 – 10.3 to expand its lead and Huff notes is its highest share since January 2019. Howard University Adult R&B 96.3 WHUR drops 8.2 – 7.9 and Cumulus Conservative Talk 105.9 WMAL is down 8.0 – 7.9 to tie for second.
Huff notes that iHeartMedia Alternative “DC 101” WWDC’s 3.3 to 4.3 gain gives it its best numbers since April 2009.
Cox Media Group’s combo of Adult R&B “Hot 105” WHQT (7.2 – 6.6) and Soft AC “Easy 93.1” WFEZ (steady at 6.1) give the company the top two stations in Miami. Univision Spanish AC “Amor 107.5” WAMR is third 5.5 to 5.7 and Entercom AC “101.5 Lite-FM” WLYF is fourth 5.4 to 5.6.
iHeartMedia News/Talk 610 WIOD trends up 1.8 – 2.1 – 2.6. iHeart’s new 90s Hits “Totally 93.9” WMIA-FM drops for the third consecutive book since its launch down 2.7 – 2.4 – 2.1.
Bonneville News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM claims the Seattle market lead with a 6.4 – 7.0 gain while iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK drops 6.9 to 6.6. Public News/Talk 94.9 KUOW trends up to third 5.3 – 5.8 – 6.3.
The CHR battle continues to tighten in Seattle. Hubbard’s “Movin 92.5” KQMV drops again 4.2 to 3.8, while iHeartMedia’s relaunched “Hits 106.1” KBKS is down 3.7 to 3.6.
Bonneville Conservative Talk “770 The Truth” KTTH jumps 2.5 to 3.6 for its best share since November 2012.
Beasley Rock 101.1 WRIF Detroit takes the market lead for the first time since November 2008 with a big 4.6 to 6.0 gain. Co-owned Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX drops to second 6.3 to 5.7.
iHeartMedia Country 102.5 KNIX is surging with a 4.8 – 5.9 – 7.3 gain to claim the lead in Phoenix. Huff notes that its only second #1 finish in the PPM era and its largest share since 1996. Entercom’s competing Country 107.9 KMLE slides 3.6 to 3.1.
iHeartMedia takes the top 4 slots in Phoenix with AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ second (6.0 – 6.5). News/Talk 550 KFYI jumps 4.4 to 5.8 to move to second, while Variety Hits “95.5 The Mountain” KYOT drops from first to fourth 6.1 to 5.4.
Trending downward in Phoenix are Entercom Classic Hits 94.5 KOOL-FM (5.3 – 4.7 – 4.3) and iHeartMedia Hot AC “Mix 96.9” KMXP (4.3 – 3.4 – 2.9).
iHeartMedia Sports “100.3 K-Fan” KFXN-FM Minneapolis jumps nearly three share points with the return of the NFL’s Vikings to go 5.3 to 8.2.
Public News/Talk 89.5 KPBS-FM claims the lead in San Diego with a 6.1 to 7.4 gain. Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 106.5” drops to second 7.1 – 6.8.
Cox Media Group Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” WHPT Tampa trends upwards 3.2 – 4.6 – 5.1. Moving in the opposite direction is iHeartMedia AC “Mix 100.7” WMTX with a 4.6 to 3.1 drop.
The return of the NFL helps Bonneville Sports “104.3 The Fan” KKFN Denver rise 2.4 to 3.5, although the Broncos co-flagships did not benefit as Classic Rock “103.5 The Fox” KRFX falls 5.0 to 4.7 and News/Talk 850/94.1 KOA is up 1.9 to 2.1.
KSE Media Hot AC “Mix 100” KIMN Denver drops from second to an eighth place tie with a 5.1 to 3.9 drop.
Lots of movement this month in Baltimore. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 95.9” WWIN-FM remains on top despite a 9.4 to 8.5 slide. Hearst’s “98 Rock” WIYY jumps to second 5.4 to 6.5 thanks to its role as flagship for the NFL’s Ravens. After generating its highest share last month since 1981, Mangione Enterprises’ Conservative Talk 680 WCBM rises again 5.2 to 5.9 to place third.
Moving downward in Baltimore are iHeartMedia Country 93.1 WPOC (6.2 – 5.4), Shamrock Classic Rock “100.7 The Bay” WZBA (4.2 – 3.5) and Entercom Hot AC “Mix 106.5” WWMX (3.1 – 2.7).
While Hubbard Classic Rock 94.7 KSHE remains in its dominant spot (12.3 – 11.6) and iHeartMedia Classic Hits 103.3 KLOU was second up 8.3 to 8.5, the big story in St. Louis was the surge of iHeartMedia Country “93.7 The Bull” KSD-FM with a 4.3 to 7.0 jump. Huff notes that is its best share since August 2012.
While most News/Talk stations across the country have gained ahead of the election, Entercom’s 1120 KMOX St. Louis fell 6.7 to 5.2 while also having benefit of the Cardinals playoff run.
Following its move from the 103.7 translator to 104.9 in July, iHeartMedia Adult R&B “Majic 104.9” KMJM-FM rises 1.4 to 2.3.
