Less than a year after launching CHR “Hits 96.5” WZOX Portage/Kalamazoo, Midwest Communications quietly moved the station to Modern AC.
WZOX had flipped to CHR on March 3, 2021 to go after Townsquare Media’s market leading 103.3 WKFR. WKFR did drop from a 12.9 share in Fall 2020 to 10.7 in Fall 2021, however WZOX was well behind at a 2.8 share.
The new playlist appears to be trying to keep one foot against WKFR, but also trying to fill the lack of Alternative and Hot AC stations in the market. No changes to the on-air lineup accompanied the music shift.
