iHeartMedia Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX Boston APD/midday host Carter Alan announced he will retire from the station on Friday, December 18 ending a 47 year run in the market.

Alan has been with WZLX since 1998 preceded by a nineteen year run at Rock 104.1 WBCN where he also served as Music Director and is credited for helping to launch the Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble as the longest running battle of the band’s competition in the United States and introducing U2 to American listeners by playing “I Will Follow” in 1980.

Alan stated, “After 47 remarkable years in Boston radio at WZLX and WBCN, it’s time for my boot heels to be wanderin’! What an endless parade of friends, characters, stars and hopefuls; I’ve met and interviewed seemingly everyone. Time to move over, rover! Retirement means no schedule and staying up as long as I want – I’m ready for that!”

WZLX Program Director and morning co-host Chris Tyler added, “Working with Carter for the past decade has been one of the highlights of my career. He’s a legendary talent, and an even better human being. It’s been a true honor. Rock on Carter!”
