FCC Report 2/20: Chicago Translator Move Coming

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
February 20, 2013

FCC Translator Application Construction Permit Station Modification LicenseEMF Broadcasting is applying to bring another translator into Chicago proper. 101.5 W268AY Seward Township, IL has applied to relocate to the top of the Trump International Hotel where it would operate with 250 watts and rebroadcast Clear Channel’s 95.5 WNUA-HD3.

In nearby Joliet, 94.3 W232BL looks to double from 5 to 10 watts with a shift to 99.1 due to interference from co-owned “K-Love” WJKL Glendale Heights.

Over in Phoenix, EMF is seeking to relocate and upgrade its 96.5 K243BN Laveen from the South Mountain tower farm to the north side of the city. It will upgrade from 11 to 51 watts. The translator will continue to rebroadcast EMF’s “Air 1” 89.9 KZAI Superior, AZ

EMF is also looking to upgrade its translator in St. Louis. 103.7 W279AQ Mascoutah seeks to shift to the Crestwood FM tower with 250 watts. The shift will include a source change from an HD subchannel of 103.3 KLOU to 100.3 KMJM.

Mainstreet Media of Colorado has applied to relocate 96.9 K245AD Arvada, CO to the tower site of 910 KPOF Denver with 99 watts. The translator will rebroadcast the Pillar of Fire owner Christian station.

Way Media’s 103.1 K276FL Colorado Springs seeks a move to 92.5 with a boost from 200 to 250 watts.

Last week we reported on the sale of 105.5 K288FJ Austin to Genuine Austin Radio. The translator has followed up with an application to move to 105.3 with a drop from 99 to 75 watts. The app also has the translator beginning to rebroadcast REO Radio Christian Talk “The Word 1490” KLGO.

Also in Austin, Jonah Creek Mission’s 100.1 K261DW looks to convert its directional signal with a non-directional array. The translator will continue to operate with 99 watts rebroadcasting 103.1 KDRP-LP via 107.1 KLZT-HD3.

Following Clear Channel’s acquisition of W295BF Midlothian, VA from Liberty University, the school is partnering with Clear Channel to upgrade its 94.9 W235AI Richmond. The translator will increase from 10 to 220 watts where it will be fed by Clear Channel’s WRXL-HD3.

Northpine.com reports that 107.7 KIMI Sidney, IA has begun testing its new signal rimshotting the Omaha market. The Kona Coast Radio owned station operates with 50kW at 124 meters.

WNUA-HD3? That’s news to me that they even have an HD3. Last time I was in the area in October they just had an HD2 with ESPN Deportes (//the 97.5 translator). What’s on the HD3?

They don’t need to have one now, just when the translator begins operations. Likely WNUA-HD3 will be used to feed EMF’s “Air-1” network to the 101.5 translator.

They had been attempting to move 96.7 Park Ridge (transmits from Niles, IL) to the downtown area to simulcast WNUA HD-3 (Which doesn’t exist) 96.7 is a K-Love translator. Transmits from a big fat red cell phone tower. Goes almost nowhere. Forgot the call letters.
