The first round of the AM Revitalization Translator Waiver Period came to a close as Thursday was the final day where only Class C and D AMs could apply for moves of FM translators within 250 miles.
Since the waiver period opened on January 29 there were 634 applications, 536 grants, 17 dismissals, and 81 currently pending. Many of those currently pending have come from the past week where 63 new applications were made.
Among the applications that are still awaiting approval are two of the original three applications for 95.9 near Washington DC. Hubbard had amended its application earlier this month for 1050 WBQH Silver Spring MD’s translator to instead operate on 93.5. Radio-One and Win Radio Broadcasting filed a settlement this week that will move 950 WCTN Potomac-Cabin John’s translator to 94.3 leaving 95.9 for 1450 WOL Washington. Two applicants are awaiting grants for 96.1 near Louisville, while three applicants have contingent applications for 95.7 in the Raleigh NC area.
The Phoenix and Kansas City area markets will see the most new FMs as five AMs in the market have already been granted translators with a sixth application still awaiting approval in Phoenix. Four have been granted near Denver with two more pending.
