Update 4/1: At 11am, the stunting came to an end on the WGVX/WGVZ/WRXP trimulcast as Cumulus debuted Sports “105 The Ticket“.
The stations will run the CBS Sports Radio Network in its entirety. They join a Sports battle in the Twin Cities that includes Clear Channel’s “100.3 KFAN” KFXN, Hubbard’s “1500 ESPN” KSTP, and plenty of Minnesota Twins talk on Modern AC “96.3 K-Twin” KTWN.
Update 3/30: “Love 105” is no more.
At 8:00 this morning the trimulcast dropped the AC format (The station hasn’t been Oldies in about a year, despite what other sites claim) and has begun stunting with a broad music mix. No imaging is present between the songs. Among the artists heard so far are Harry Belafonte, Queen, Fats Domino, Cameo, Elvis Costello, Joe Cocker, Max-A-Million, and the theme song to the Jeffersons.
Original Report 3/29: What’s going on at Cumulus AC “Love 105” trimulcast?
The station’s website now features the logo “Radio 105” and the station’s Twitter account has changed to @105RadioMN.
The trimulcast is made up of 105.1 WGVX Lakeville, MN which serves the southern suburbs of the Twin Cities, 105.3 WRXP Cambridge north of Minneapolis, and 105.7 WGVZ Eden Prairie serving the cities proper.
We’re expecting that the “Radio 105” identity will be tied to a stunt leading into the debut of a CBS Sports Radio affiliate in the market. Perhaps one to be branded as “The Ticket“?
Going CBS sports radio or Top 40. Signals will limit any sort of success for anything they do. Just a flanker.
As of 0800 Saturday, 3/30, the format is gone. They are playing a mix of everything from George Jones to Fat Boy Slim. It’s a jukebox presentation with no liners/bumpers, just music dropping into commercials and back to music. I didn’t get a chance to hear the 8am top of the hour, so I’m not sure if they have changed it to Radio 105 or if the “Love” moniker still lives there (for now).
