In addition to its move to 103.1 WFYY Windermere/Orlando this morning, JVC Broadcasting has made additional changes at its Conservative Talk “Florida Man Radio” network this morning.
The brand has also launched in Ocala on 101.1 W266DY/102.3 WXUS-HD3 Dunnellon and continues to air on 103.1 WZLB Valparaiso/Fort Walton Beach. In addition, the network is expanding its local output as the midday Don Miller Show expands from 10am-12pm eastern to 10am to 1:45pm, and the afternoon show hosted by Shannon Burke moves up an hour to run from 2-6pm eastern as opposed to 3-7pm. Premiere Networks’ Jesse Kelly Show will also move up to 6-9pm with Key Networks’ “Bill O’Reilly’s No Spin News” added from 9-10pm. Dan Bongino gets dropped from 12-3pm in Orlando and Markley, Van Camp & Robbins from 11am-2pm in Fort Walton Beach.
With the flip at 103.1, “Fly” morning host Lil’ Shawn and the afternoon team of Ricky Padilla and DJ Nasty have departed the company. Stevie DeMann continues in his role as Florida Director of Programming overseeing Orlando, Ocala, and Fort Walton Beach programming, while former midday host Murph Dawg will remain with the company as well.
As expected, Florida Man Radio’s former 105.5 W288CJ Oviedo signal is now rebroadcasting Sports “ESPN Orlando” 660 WDYZ Altamonte Springs.
JVC Executive Vice President Shane Reeve stated, “Florida Man Radio is all about local shows and hot content. FMR is the go-to source for Florida talk radio and I am thrilled for the continued growth of FMR and for the opportunity to reach new audiences that connect so deeply with the incredible talents.” President/CEO John Caracciolo followed, “Programming like FMR is what makes terrestrial radio relevant and strong, we have to dare to be different and produce content that drives listeners to our platform and that entertains, educates and sometimes just makes us laugh out loud. The vision of a locally based talk station that isn’t afraid to confront the big topics while not taking it too seriously, screams the mantra of JVC. We need to keep live and local radio working for our clients and listeners”.
Original Report 2/28: JVC Broadcasting will flip Rhythmic CHR “Fly 103.1” WFYY Windermere/Orlando FL to Conservative Talk “Florida Man Radio” on Monday, March 4.
The move will upgrade the nearly five year old brand from 105.5 W288CJ Oviedo FL fed by WFYY-HD3 to the Class C2 signal that has been home to the Rhythmic CHR brand since August 2022.
“Florida Man Radio” launched in Orlando in September 2019 and most of its lineup also airs in Fort Walton Beach on 103.1 WZLB Valparaiso. The station’s lineup currently features Bubba The Love Sponge’s syndicated show in mornings, Don Miller from 10-1145am, Westwood One’s Dan Bongino Show from 12-3pm, Shannon Burke in afternoons, and Premiere Networks Jesse Kelly Show in evenings. The station positions itself between iHeartMedia Hot Talk “Real Radio 104.1” WTKS-FM and the Conservative Talk combination of Cox’s 580/107.3 WDBO and iHeart’s “Newsradio WFLA” 540/93.1/94.1 WFLF.
“Fly 103.1” had a 1.3 share in the January 2024 Nielsen Audio ratings as it was unable to claim the audience made available following Cox’s sale of “Power 95.3” WOYO to SBS. “Florida Man Radio” last appeared in the ratings with a 0.1 share in December 2023. The flip will leave iHeartMedia’s “104.5 The Beat” WTKS-HD2 as the only Hip Hop station in the market. It also had a 1.3 share in the January ratings.
No word yet on the status of the Fly 103.1 airstaff which includes Program Director Stevie DeMann, morning host Lil’ Shawn, midday host Murph Dawg, and afternoon hosts Ricky Padilla and DJ Nasty.
JVC, which also owns “ESPN 660” WDYZ in the Orlando market, states a new format will launch on the 105.5 translator. Our expectations would be a simulcast of WDYZ.
