Radio Remembers Mister Cee

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
April 10, 2024

DJ Mister Cee 94.7 The Block Rock The Bells Hot 97“94.7 The Block” WXBK New York and SiriusXM “Rock The Bells Radio” personality and mixer Calvin ‘Mister Cee’ LeBrun has died at the age of 57.

Cee had been mixing a weekday 12pm mixshow on WXBK and a nightly 10pm-12am Eastern show on the SiriusXM channel. The latter will have a tribute show tonight at 9pm. The Brooklyn native began his career as a producer and “official DJ” for high school classmate Big Daddy Kane in the late 80s and would discover Notorious B.I.G. later serving as his DJ and a co-producer on his debut album.

He became best known for his 21 year run at Hip Hop “Hot 97” WQHT New York from 1993 to 2014 where was known for his “Throwback At Noon” mix that later moved to Cumulus Media Adult R&B “Radio 103.9” WNBM and then WXBK. Cee also hosted “The Beat 102.7” in-game radio channel in “Grand Theft Auto IV”.

WQHT released the following statement:

As a family at HOT 97 and WBLS, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Mister Cee. He wasn’t just a DJ; he was a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary Throwback at Noon and Friday Night Live sets.

Mr. Cee’s influence stretched far beyond the airwaves, shaping the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture. Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music.

Rest easy, Mr. Cee. Your legacy will live forever.

We have lost the iconic Mister Cee. I listened to him yesterday and am in complete shock. He was a dear friend to all of us, a wonderful man, and one of the most important and impactful DJs of all time. I love you Cee.

Mister Cee was a giant.
He always deserved better from the culture he built and nurtured.
Despite it all, he never folded.
He gave everything he had to hip-hop with an aspirational amount of responsibility, care and precision. He was deeply, deeply loved. God bless you, sir.

Damn, RIP DJ Mister Cee. We hadn't spoken in many years but in my early days he was so generous about welcoming us into the NY radio circle, hanging in our little ramshackle studio and regaling us with stories and history. A giant in the culture. ???? pic.twitter.com/J84UVNUder
