January 2025 (1/9 – 2/5) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 2: WAMU & WTOP See Inauguration Gains

Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.

Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Seattle, Miami, Phoenix, Detroit, Minneapolis, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, San Diego, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

With this week’s January monthly, Nielsen has changed its methodology for the PPM surveys changing the listening credit threshold from five minutes within a quarter-hour to just three. The most noticeable change will be the increase in CUME for many stations.

Washington DC

88.5 WAMU Washington DC American UniversityPublic News/Talk 88.5 WAMU rises 12.3 to 13.4 for what Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes matches the largest share ever record by the station in January 2021. Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP is up 10.1 to 11.4 for its best share since February 2010. Howard University Adult R&B 96.3 WHUR continues its slide 8.5 – 7.6 – 7.0 – 6.2 – 5.7. iHeartMedia AC 97.1 WASH is down 8.7 to 5.2, while sister Alternative “DC 101” WWDC rises 4.6 to 5.1 for its best share since September 2021.

Classical 90.9 WETA-FM drops 5.2 to 4.5. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.3/92.7” WMMJ/WDCJ is down 3.7 – 3.4 – 3.2. iHeart Country 98.7 WMZQ slips 4.2 – 3.2 – 3.0.

iHeartMedia CHR “Hot 99.5” WIHT rises 2.9 to 3.7. Audacy Hip Hop 95.5 WPGC climbs 2.2 – 2.7 – 2.9. Costa Media Spanish CHR “DC 87.7” WDCN-LD is up 0.8 to 1.5.

Boston

90.9 WBUR-FM Boston UniversityBeasley Media’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM rises 7.8 to 9.0. Audacy AC “Magic 106.7” WMJX is down 15.4 to 7.9. iHeartMedia News 1030 WBZ is up 5.5 to 5.8. Public News/Talk 90.9 WBUR jumps up 3.9 to 5.6. Audacy Sports 93.7 WEEI-FM soars 2.3 to 4.7 for its best share since December 2022.

iHeart CHR “Kiss 108” WXKS-FM is up 3.8 to 4.5, with sister Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX ip 3.6 to 4.5. Audacy Hot AC “Mix 104.1” WWBX climbs 3.4 to 4.4.

Public News/Talk 89.7 WGBH-FM rises 3.4 to 4.0 while sister Classical 99.5 WCRB is down 3.5 – 3.1 – 2.8.

Seattle/Tacoma

Northwest News Radio 1000 KNWN KOMO 97.7 SeattlePublic News/Talk 94.9 KUOW-FM trends up 6.3 – 6.7 – 7.6 to take the market lead. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK is second 5.8 to 5.6. Hubbard AC “Warm 106.9” KRWM is down 11.3 to 4.8. Bonneville News/Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM inches up 4.4 to 4.5. Classical 98.1 KING-FM trends up 3.5 – 3.9 – 4.4 for what Huff notes is its best share since July 2020.

Lotus’ “Northwest News Radio” 1000 KNWN/97.7 KNWN-FM rises 2.9 – 3.3 – 4.0.

Audacy Country “100.7 The Wolf” KKWF is off 4.4 to 4.3, but its stream rises 0.1 to 0.7. Hubbard Country “98.9 The Bull” KPNW-FM is up 1.4 to 1.9.

Audacy Alternative “107.7 The End” KNDD is up 3.2 to 3.8. AAA 90.3 KEXP rises 2.8 to 3.6.

Dance “C89.5” KNHC holds on its record high 2.3 share for the second straight month.

Miami/Fort Lauderdale

Hot 105 WHQT Miami Rick PartyCox Media Group Adult R&B “Hot 105” WHQT maintains its lead for the 25th consecutive month 9.1 to 8.9. Cox Soft AC “Easy 93.1” WFEZ is up 5.5 to 5.8. Audacy Classic Hits “102.7 The Beach” WMXJ holds at a 5.2. Univision Spanish AC “Amor 107.5” WAMR is steady at a 5.1 share. SBS Spanish Oldies “Zeta 92.3” WCMQ-FM inches up 4.8 to 4.9.

Audacy AC “101.5 Lite-FM” WLYF is down 5.6 to 4.7. iHeartMedia Bilingual AC “Magic 93.9” WMIA-FM slides 5.6 – 5.1 – 4.5.

Audacy Rhythmic Throwbacks “Power 96” WPOW-FM rises 2.8 to 3.6. Cox Rhythmic AC “Hits 97.3” WFLC slides 4.2 – 3.5 – 3.2. iHeartMedia CHR “Y100” WHYI is up 2.3 – 2.6 – 2.9.

Audacy Country “99.9 Kiss Country” WKIS is down 3.5 to 2.9.

Phoenix

95.5 The Mountain KYOT PhoenixiHeartMedia AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ maintains its lead 16.4 to 8.1. Hubbard Classic Rock 100.7 KSLX inches up 5.4 to 5.6. iHeartMedia Variety Hits “95.5 The Mountain” KYOT rises 3.5 to 4.6. iHeart Country 102.5 KNIX (4.3 to 4.5) and Hubbard Rock 97.9 KUPD (4.1 to 4.5) tie for fourth.

Audacy Classic Hits “94.5 Big-FM” KOOL-FM jumps up 3.2 to 4.1, while sister Country 107.9 KMLE is up 3.2 to 4.0. Hubbard’s “93.3 Alt AZ” KDKB rises 2.9 to 3.5. iHeartMedia Modern AC “Mix 96.9” KMXP climbs 2.1 to 3.2.

Chavez Media Regional Mexican “La Campesina 101.9” 860 KNAI rises 1.9 to 3.1.

iHeartMedia CHR “104.7 Kiss-FM” KZZP is up 2.6 to 3.0. Audacy CHR “Live 101.5” KALV-FM is up 2.3 – 2.5 – 3.0.

Classical 89.5 KBAQ drops 4.4 to 3.0. Zelus Media Oldies “The Wow Factor 94.9/95.1” KOAI continues its slide 2.7 to 2.2.

Bonneville News/Talk 92.3 KTAR-FM rises 2.0 to 2.8. Sierra H Broadcasting Rhythmic Throwbacks “101 The Bounce” KZCE trends up 1.7 – 2.0 – 2.5.

Audacy Classic Hits 104.3 WOMC rises 5.7 to 6.6, with sister News 950 WWJ up 4.5 – 4.9 – 6.3. iHeart CHR “Channel 95.5” WKQI rebounds 5.0 to 5.8.

Beasley Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX is up 4.4 to 5.5. iHeart Adult R&B “Mix 92.3” WMXD rises 4.5 to 5.2. Audacy Country 99.5 WYCD gains 4.4 to 5.1. Cumulus Hot AC 96.3 WDVD is up 3.2 to 4.0.

Audacy Alternative “Alt 98.7” WDZH is up 2.1 to 2.7. Cumulus News/Talk 760 WJR rises 2.0 to 2.7. Public News/Talk 101.9 WDET is up 1.8 to 2.3.

Classical 90.9 WRCJ continues to climb 1.7 – 2.6 – 3.4 – 3.9, for what Huff notes is the largest ever share for the station.
