Audacy Sports 93.7 WEEI-FM Lawrence/Boston MA will launch “Rich & Ken with Ted Johnson” hosted by Rich Shertenlieb and Ken Laird from 2-6pm weekdays starting this afternoon.
Shertenlieb most recently had a brief six month stint in mornings at iHeartMedia Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX Boston from May to November 2024. That followed a fourteen year run co-hosting mornings at Beasley’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM with Fred Toucher. He and Toucher previously hosted afternoons and mornings at Rock 104.1 WBCN. He also worked at Alternative “99X” WNNX Atlanta and was a producer on the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show.
Ken Laird most recently served as Brand Manager at WEEI from January 2023 until the company’s management restructuring earlier this month when former Market Manager Mike Thomas became SVP/Programming and Sports Format VP. Laird began his career at WEEI as an intern in 2001. Following a long run at ESPN’s 1250 WEAE Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Lair returned to WEEI in 2014 and has held multiple producer and contributor roles before joining the morning show as executive producer and update anchor. He was promoted to Assistant Brand Manager in August 2021 and then Operations Manager in January 2022 and will continue in that role as well.
Johnson joined the WEEI afternoon show in January 2025. He had been a contributor and fill-in host at WBZ-FM from 2018 to 2023 and being part of Shertenlieb’s WZLX show. He retired from the NFL in 2005 and previously hosted pre and postgame shows for WBZ-TV as well as weekend shows on CBS Sports Radio. He also worked at KILT Houston.
Thomas said, “Rich is one of the most dynamic and entertaining voices in Boston media, with a proven ability to connect with audiences across platforms. Paired with Ted’s championship pedigree and insight, and Ken’s deep understanding of the station and its audience, this show brings together a unique combination of credibility, energy and perspective that will resonate with Boston sports fans.”
Shertenlieb commented, “I’m thrilled to be at WEEI and reunite with my buddy and one of my favorite colleagues, Ted Johnson, and work with Ken to see what we can build together. The station’s connection to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund makes this deeply personal, given the role those organizations have played in saving my wife’s life. I’m grateful for this next chapter and can’t wait to get started.”
Laird added, “I’m super excited about what we are going to build together. Rich and Ted bring so much personality and I know we won’t be short on fun and opinions. I’ve been around WEEI for awhile now, and this feels like something totally new.”
The move follows last week’s exit of Andy Hart and Nick ‘Fitzy’ Stevens.
