Translator Report 3/14: More Translators In Baltimore & St. Louis

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
March 14, 2012

Radio FM HD HD2 FMX EMF Clear Channel Translator Report

Hope Christian Church of Marlton, NJ’s partnership with CBS has already brought Modern Rock “HFS” back to life on 97.5 W248AO Baltimore. Two of Hope’s other Baltimore area translators are making moves to improve their signals in the market. 98.3 W252BR Edgemere, MD has applied to move from the southeastern side of Baltimore to the southwestern side near Ellicot City, MD where it would operate with a directional 250 watts to prevent interference to 98.5 WYCR York, PA. 98.3 will be fed via the currently non-existant HD4 subchannel of CBS’ 101.9 WLIF.

Concurrently, 106.1 W291BA Baltimore has applied to move from 98.3’s intended destination to the Television Hill tower site used by many of the market’s FM’s and TV’s. That 250 watt signal fed by CBS’ 105.7 WJZ-HD3 will serve much of the northern half of the Baltimore market with nulls to protect Cumulus’ 105.9 WMAL-FM Woodbridge, VA and Clear Channel’s 106.1 WISX Philadelphia.

North of Baltimore, Hope Christian Church’s 96.5 W243BR is attempting to complete its move from York, PA into Harrisburg, PA. That translator will be fed by Cumulus’ 93.5 WWKL-HD2 and operate with 210 watts from WWKL’s tower site. The translator’s service contour will cover all of Harrisburg, Carlisle, and the northern half of York.

In what looks to be the first step of a move into St. Louis, Missouri River Christian Broadcasting’s 95.7 K239BI Gray Summit, MO has been granted a CP to move to High Ridge on the fringe of the St. Louis metro. The translator will shift to 96.1 with 100 watts, which places its coverage completely in the protected contour of Emmis’ 96.3 KIHT St. Louis which will be feeding the translator. Once built, we’d expect the next step to be a shift to St. Louis itself and a move to 96.7 which would place it safely between Emmis’ second adjacent stations on 96.3 and 97.1 KFTK Florrisant, MO.

Mission Nebraska has sold 94.5 K233AN Lincoln, NE to NRG Media to simulcast News/Talk 1400 KLIN. The translator has a STA to remain dark until May 14 and concurrently has applied to increase power from 99 to 250 watts with a shift in tower site to downtown Lincoln.
