Clear Channel has relaunched the Classic Rock “Thunder” brand in the Tampa/St. Petersburg market.
The station is made up of two translators rebroadcasting 100.7 WMTX-HD2. New sign-on 94.5 W233AV Gulfport, FL serves the St. Petersburg side of the market, while 105.9 W290BJ West Tampa covers the Tampa side of the bay. W290BJ had been rebroadcasting sister News/Talk 970 WFLA. Bot translators are licensed to operate with 250 watts.
ThunderTampaBay.com was registered by Clear Channel earlier today, but is not yet live.
The Thunder brand under the WTBT calls was operated by Clear Channel and predecessor Jacor on 105.5 from 1995 to 1999 when it was moved to 103.5 where it remained until it flipped to Country “US 103.5” WFUS in 2005. In 2001, Thunder was the #1 station 25-54 in the Tampa market.
