There’s A Lake In Utah?
Update 1/3: Clear Channel was using KOSY to mask the planned usage of the domain at another city where they operate a 106.5 adjacent to a big lake. Today, 106.5 WMVX Cleveland assumed the “106.5 The Lake” moniker ending any possibility of a change at KOSY.
Original Report 12/12: A post-holiday rebranding or flip could be taking place in Salt Lake City, where Clear Channel has registered 1065TheLake.com which is redirecting to the website of AC “Today’s 106.5” KOSY. The station currently competes with a number of other stations for the share of AC audience in Salt Lake City. These are Deseret Media’s Soft AC “FM100” KSFI, Citadel AC”B98.7” KBEE, Capital Broadcasting AC “Now 97.9” KBZN, and Clear Channel sister Hot AC “My 99.5” KJMY.
KOSY shifted from Soft AC to Mainstream AC over the course of 2009, changing from “Kosy 106.5” to its current moniker in the process. If the format is shifting a likely landing would be Variety Hits as rimshot “103.1 Jack-FM” KJQN has put up solid numbers with a deficient signal in the market. KJQN’s long term future could also be in doubt as the station is in a trust following Simmons Media’s acquisition of Millcreek Broadcasting.
