Spanish Broadcasting System has made numerous cuts at its New York cluster.
Sources indicate that more than a dozen staffers were let go from Spanish AC “93.1 Amor” WPAT-FM Paterson and Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ-FM New York including WSKQ afternoon co-host Janeiro Matos, overnight host DJ Jumpin Jay, weekend host JI Starr and cluster News Director Renato Morffi. Other cuts were made in the programming and promotions departments.
The cuts were made after the station agreed to a new contract with afternoon co-host Frederick ‘El Pacha’ Martinez who had been off the air since mid-December when his contract expired. Diario Libre reports that Martinez settled for under the $5 million salary he had been seeking.
