June 2022 (5/26 – 6/22) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 1: WDRV & WSRV’s All Time Record Highs Lead Classic Rock Surge

Nielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

It was a good day for Classic Rock as WDRV Chicago and WSRV Atlanta set record highs and WAXQ New York, KLOS Los Angeles, and WMGK Philadelphia saw significant gains.

New York

Q104.3 WAXQ New YorkiHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW reclaims the New York lead with a 5.1 – 6.1 – 6.4 trend. Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM slides to second 6.7 to 5.6. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ jumps up to third 4.3 – 4.5 – 5.4. MediaCo Adult R&B 107.5 WBLS dips 5.5 to 5.3. SBS Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ rises 4.5 to 5.1.

Audacy News duo of 1010 WINS (4.2 – 3.1 – 2.7) and 880 WCBS (2.9 – 2.8 – 2.4) trend downwards.

Los Angeles

102.3 KJLH Compton Los Angeles Stevie WonderiHeartMedia AC 103.5 KOST remains on top with a 6.5 to 6.0 dip. Audacy Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH rises 4.9 to 5.5. iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG dips 5.6 to 5.2. Univision Spanish AC “107.5 K-Love” KLVE rises 4.2 to 4.4. iHeartMedia News/Talk 640 KFI (5.0 to 4.3) and Audacy Rhythmic AC “94.7 The Wave” KTWV (4.6 to 4.3) dip to a fifth place tie.

Meruelo Media Classic Rock 95.5 KLOS jumps up 2.5 to 3.3. Taxi Productions Adult R&B 102.3 KJLH rises 2.2 to 2.7 with Ratings Expert Chris Huff noting is the highest share in the station’s history. In its first monthly following the return of Kevin Weatherly as Program Director, Audacy Alternative 106.7 KROQ rises 1.4 to 1.8.

Trending down in Los Angeles are SBS Regional Mexican “97.9 La Raza” KLAX (3.2 – 2.6 – 2.4), iHeartMedia’s “LA 570 Sports” KLAC (2.0 – 1.7 – 1.5), and Public Variety 89.9 KCRW (1.8 – 1.4 – 1.0).

Chicago

97.1 The Drive WDRV ChicagoHubbard Classic Rock “97.1 The Drive” WDRV jumps up 6.0 to 6.8 for what Huff notes is the largest share in the history of the frequency. Audacy News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS rises 4.7 to 5.0 to tie for second with iHeartMedia Adult R&B “V103” WVAZ (6.0 – 5.4 – 5.0). Public News/Talk 91.5 WBEZ dips 4.8 to 4.6. iHeartMedia AC “93.9 Lite-FM” WLIT is off 5.3 to 4.6.

EMF’s “K-Love” 97.9 WCKL rises 1.2 to 1.8. Following its rebrand to “Q101“, Cumulus’ Alternative 101.1 WKQX trends up 2.0 – 2.1 – 2.3.

San Francisco

Bonneville AC 96.5 KOIT retains the San Francisco market lead up 6.8 to 6.9. Public News/Talk 88.5 KQED-FM rebounds up 5.9 to 6.4. Audacy News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC inches up 6.2 to 6.3. Cumulus Sports 680 KNBR/104.5 KNBR-FM is up 3.9 to 4.3. iHeartMedia Soft AC “98.1 The Breeze” KISQ holds in fifth trending down 4.6 – 4.4 – 4.0.

iHeartMedia Hip Hop 106.1 KMEL jumps up 2.6 to 3.7. Audacy Sports “95.7 The Game” KGMZ trends 1.1 – 2.2 – 2.3. iHeartMedia Hot AC “Star 101.3” KIOI falls 4.7 – 3.7 – 3.4. Bonneville Adult R&B is down 2.9 – 2.2 – 2.1 for what Huff notes is its lowest share since April 2020.

Dallas/Fort Worth

Que Buena 94.1 KLNO DallasUnivision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 94.1” KLNO expands its Dallas/Fort Worth lead with a 6.6 to 7.4 gain with Huff noting its is also an all-time record high. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Lonestar 92.5” KZPS dips 5.3 to 5.0. iHeartMedia AC “Star 102.1” KDGE rises to third 4.4 to 4.6. Cumulus Sports “The Ticket” 1310 KTCK/96.7 KTCK-FM slips 4.9 to 4.4. iHeartMedia CHR “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS inches up 4.0 to 4.1.

Cumulus News/Talk 820 WBAP trends up 2.9 – 3.6 – 4.0. Also trending up are Salem Christian AC 94.9 KLTY (3.0 – 3.4 – 3.6), Audacy’s “Alt 103.7” KVIL (2.2 – 2.7 – 2.9), and Classical 101.1 WRR-FM (0.8 to 1.5).

Trending down are Cumulus Classic Country “99.5 The Wolf” KPLX (4.4 – 4.0 – 3.4), Audacy Variety Hits “100.3 Jack-FM” KJKK (4.1 – 3.8 – 2.9), and Service Broadcasting Hip Hop “K104” KKDA-FM (3.2 – 3.0 – 2.8)

Houston/Galveston

94.5 The Buzz KTBZ Houston Rod Ryan ShowiHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA trends up 6.8 – 7.1 – 7.7, while sister Alternative “94.5 The Buzz” KTBZ-FM continues its surge up 4.4 – 6.2 – 6.6 for what Huff notes is the largest share for the station since October 2010. Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 102.9” KLTN is up 6.1 to 6.2. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ inches up 5.5 to 5.7. Cox Classic Rock “107.5/106.9 The Eagle” KGLK/KHPT dips 5.5 to 5.3.

Hope Media Group Christian AC 89.3 KSBJ slips 5.8 – 5.5 – 5.2. Cumulus CHR 104.1 KRBE is down 4.4 – 4.2 – 3.5.

Atlanta

97.1 The River WSRVIn what is now a common occurrence, Cox Media Group holds the top four spots in Atlanta. Classic Rock “97.1 The River” WSRV expands its lead to three share points as it trends up 7.4 – 8.6 – 9.7. Huff notes that the gain sets a new all-time record high for the frequency, while the brand added an additional 1.2 share from its online stream.

Adult R&B “Kiss 104.1” WALR-FM places second with a 6.5 to 6.7 rise. AC “B95.5” WSB-FM rises 6.0 to 6.3. News/Talk 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB dips 6.0 to 5.7. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 107.5/97.5” WAMJ/WUMJ places fifth down 6.1 to 5.5.

Both Top 40s in Atlanta see declines as Cumulus’ “Q99.7” WWWQ is off 5.8 to 5.1, and iHeartMedia’s “Power 96.1” WWPW-FM slides 5.4 to 3.7.

Radio One Hip Hop “Hot 97.5” WHTA rises 1.9 to 2.6. Radio Training Network Christian AC “The Joy FM” 93.3 WVFJ doubles up 1.2 to 2.4.

Trending down are Salem Christian AC “104.7 The Fish” WFSH (3.9 – 3.6 – 3.3), iHeartMedia Country “94.9 The Bull” WUBL (3.1 – 3.0 – 2.7), and Radio One Gospel “Praise 102.5” WPZE (3.5 – 3.0 – 2.4).

Philadelphia

Beasley Media Rock 93.3 WMMR’s lead narrows despite a 6.8 – 7.4 – 8.2 gain as iHeartMedia Adult R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM jumps up 6.8 to 8.0. Beasley Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK trends up 6.2 – 7.0 – 7.3. Audacy AC “B101” WBEB rises 5.3 to 5.5. Audacy Classic Hits “Big 98.1” WOGL rebounds 5.2 to 5.4 in its first full monthly following its rebranding to tie for fifth with Public News/Talk 90.9 WHYY-FM (5.5 to 5.4).

Radio One R&B Oldies “Classix 107.9” WPPZ trends up 2.2 – 2.5 – 3.1. iHeartMedia CHR “Q102” WIOQ declines 3.3 – 3.1 – 2.8. Beasley Sports “97.5 The Fanatic” WPEN-FM is down 2.4 – 2.3 – 1.6.

Long Island

Cox Classic Rock 102.3 WBAB/95.3 WHFM continues to lead the market with a 5.7 to 5.5 dip. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ rises 4.7 to 5.4 to tie Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM (5.0 to 5.4). iHeartMedia CHR “Z100” WHTZ jumps up 3.6 to 4.6. Cox CHR 106.1 WBLI dips 4.5 to 4.2.

iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW trends up 2.9 – 3.5 – 3.8. Audacy Hot AC “New 102.7” WNEW rises 2.6 – 2.9 – 3.4. Connoisseur Media Hot AC 97.5 WALK-FM is off 4.8 to 3.7, while sister Classic Hits “103.1 Max-FM” WBZO falls 4.2 – 3.9 – 3.1.

Riverside/San Bernardino

Anaheim Broadcasting Classic Hits 99.9 KOLA-FM holds a three share lead with a 7.0 to 7.5 gain. Entravision Spanish Adult Hits “Jose 97.5” KLYY holds at a 4.5, which ties Estrella Media Regional Mexican “La Que Buena 96.1” KRQB after its 3.5 to 4.5 rise. iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG trends down 4.6 – 4.3 – 3.9. Good News Radio Christian AC 89.7 KSGN rises to fifth 3.2 to 3.8.

iHeartMedia Rhythmic CHR 99.1 KGGI jumps 1.8 to 3.3. Point Broadcasting Rhythmic Oldies “Q104.7” KQIE trends up 1.7 – 2.7 – 3.0. Meruelo Media Spanish CHR “Cali 93.9” KLLI trends up 1.3 – 1.6 – 2.0. Trending down are Meruelo’s Classic Rock 95.5 KLOS (3.6 – 2.4 – 2.1) and Anaheim Broadcasting Rock 96.7 KCAL-FM (2.8 – 2.6 – 1.9)

San Jose

95.3 KRTY San Jose KRTY.com Legendary CountryDespite making its flip from Country to EMF’s Christian AC “K-Love” KLRK three quarters of the way through the monthly survey, Empire Broadcasting’s 95.3 KRTY remains in the lead with a 9.2 to 8.2 decline. Bonneville AC 96.5 KOIT places second up 6.3 to 6.4. Bonneville Classic Rock “98.5 K-Fox” KUFX rises 4.9 to 5.6. Audacy News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC is fourth 5.4 to 5.3. Alpha Media Hot AC “Mix 106.5” KEZR (3.6 to 3.7) and Univision Spanish Adult Hits “Recuerdo 100.3” KBRG (5.4 to 3.7) tie for fifth.

Alpha Media’s “Bay Country” 94.5 KBAY has yet to gain momentum trending down 3.7 – 3.3 – 2.8 since its April flip from AC.

Middlesex/Somerset/Union

With MediaCo’s New York stations not appearing in the embedded market numbers, Townsquare Media Talk/Classic Hits “New Jersey 101.5” WKXW remains in the lead holding at a 5.7 share. SBS’ Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ holds at a 5.3, but its stream rises 1.0 to 2.1. iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW rises 4.5 to 4.8, with co-owned Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ following up 4.0 to 4.6. Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM holds at a 4.3 share.

Both Top 40s in Atlanta see declines as Cumulus’ “Q99.7” WWWQ is off 5.8 to 5.1, and iHeartMedia’s “Power 96.1” WWPW-FM slides 5.4 to 3.7.

Radio One Hip Hop “Hot 97.5” WHTA rises 1.9 to 2.6. Radio Training Network Christian AC “The Joy FM” 93.3 WVFJ doubles up 1.2 to 2.4.

Trending down are Salem Christian AC “104.7 The Fish” WFSH (3.9 – 3.6 – 3.3), iHeartMedia Country “94.9 The Bull” WUBL (3.1 – 3.0 – 2.7), and Radio One Gospel “Praise 102.5” WPZE (3.5 – 3.0 – 2.4).

Philadelphia

Beasley Media Rock 93.3 WMMR’s lead narrows despite a 6.8 – 7.4 – 8.2 gain as iHeartMedia Adult R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM jumps up 6.8 to 8.0. Beasley Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK trends up 6.2 – 7.0 – 7.3. Audacy AC “B101” WBEB rises 5.3 to 5.5. Audacy Classic Hits “Big 98.1” WOGL rebounds 5.2 to 5.4 in its first full monthly following its rebranding to tie for fifth with Public News/Talk 90.9 WHYY-FM (5.5 to 5.4).

Radio One R&B Oldies “Classix 107.9” WPPZ trends up 2.2 – 2.5 – 3.1. iHeartMedia CHR “Q102” WIOQ declines 3.3 – 3.1 – 2.8. Beasley Sports “97.5 The Fanatic” WPEN-FM is down 2.4 – 2.3 – 1.6.

Long Island

Cox Classic Rock 102.3 WBAB/95.3 WHFM continues to lead the market with a 5.7 to 5.5 dip. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ rises 4.7 to 5.4 to tie Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM (5.0 to 5.4). iHeartMedia CHR “Z100” WHTZ jumps up 3.6 to 4.6. Cox CHR 106.1 WBLI dips 4.5 to 4.2.

iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW trends up 2.9 – 3.5 – 3.8. Audacy Hot AC “New 102.7” WNEW rises 2.6 – 2.9 – 3.4. Connoisseur Media Hot AC 97.5 WALK-FM is off 4.8 to 3.7, while sister Classic Hits “103.1 Max-FM” WBZO falls 4.2 – 3.9 – 3.1.

Riverside/San Bernardino

Anaheim Broadcasting Classic Hits 99.9 KOLA-FM holds a three share lead with a 7.0 to 7.5 gain. Entravision Spanish Adult Hits “Jose 97.5” KLYY holds at a 4.5, which ties Estrella Media Regional Mexican “La Que Buena 96.1” KRQB after its 3.5 to 4.5 rise. iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG trends down 4.6 – 4.3 – 3.9. Good News Radio Christian AC 89.7 KSGN rises to fifth 3.2 to 3.8.

iHeartMedia Rhythmic CHR 99.1 KGGI jumps 1.8 to 3.3. Point Broadcasting Rhythmic Oldies “Q104.7” KQIE trends up 1.7 – 2.7 – 3.0. Meruelo Media Spanish CHR “Cali 93.9” KLLI trends up 1.3 – 1.6 – 2.0. Trending down are Meruelo’s Classic Rock 95.5 KLOS (3.6 – 2.4 – 2.1) and Anaheim Broadcasting Rock 96.7 KCAL-FM (2.8 – 2.6 – 1.9)

San Jose

95.3 KRTY San Jose KRTY.com Legendary CountryDespite making its flip from Country to EMF’s Christian AC “K-Love” KLRK three quarters of the way through the monthly survey, Empire Broadcasting’s 95.3 KRTY remains in the lead with a 9.2 to 8.2 decline. Bonneville AC 96.5 KOIT places second up 6.3 to 6.4. Bonneville Classic Rock “98.5 K-Fox” KUFX rises 4.9 to 5.6. Audacy News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC is fourth 5.4 to 5.3. Alpha Media Hot AC “Mix 106.5” KEZR (3.6 to 3.7) and Univision Spanish Adult Hits “Recuerdo 100.3” KBRG (5.4 to 3.7) tie for fifth.

Alpha Media’s “Bay Country” 94.5 KBAY has yet to gain momentum trending down 3.7 – 3.3 – 2.8 since its April flip from AC.

Middlesex/Somerset/Union

With MediaCo’s New York stations not appearing in the embedded market numbers, Townsquare Media Talk/Classic Hits “New Jersey 101.5” WKXW remains in the lead holding at a 5.7 share. SBS’ Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ holds at a 5.3, but its stream rises 1.0 to 2.1. iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW rises 4.5 to 4.8, with co-owned Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ following up 4.0 to 4.6. Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM holds at a 4.3 share.
