As part of the launch of its new Apple Music streaming music service, Apple is debuting “Beats1” as a 24/7 live worldwide streaming station.
Broadcasting from studios in London, Los Angeles, and New York the station will focus on music discovery hosted by “real music fans” and artists. The new service will be led by Zane Lowe, who exited his night show at BBC Radio 1 earlier this year to relocate to Los Angeles with Apple. Also mentioned as part of the channel is Ebro Darden, morning host at Emmis Rhythmic CHR “Hot 97” WQHT New York and London based Julie Adenuga.
While the Apple Music service will be $9.99 per month after a three month free trial, Beats1 will be offered for free. It will debut on iOS devices on June 30 and on Android and Windows devices later this year.
