WTIX applied for a translator on September 4th to rebroadcast TIX-FM from deep in Metarie on 94.3 to give the main transmitter a boost in the city

But my feeling is $578,000 was a **** of a lot of money for just equipment as I thought the land wasn't the radio stations and that's why the tower had to come down?

i don't know if you were aware of it but the tower was taken down for almost a year ago... i would say that the station was bought for parts and to make some money off the sell of
the land....

Kind of late news, but the home that Robert Namer built and lost, WASO 730am, lost it's license with the FCC with new owners MCDJ inc (who's owners share in ownership of WGSO 990am).

The license was cancelled on August 3rd, guessing due to not airing any kind of programming in one year that the FCC normally wants to maintain a license. Meaning the owners are out some serious change over not having the broadcast license anymore.

Stelly on "B97's back to the music... more often!"

It seems that the more I listen to B97 now that Mike Kaplan is out of the PD chair, they sound more and more like KSMB.

New VO guy: Brian "Audioboy" Christopher. As much as I like old VO guy (Will Morgan) he's not CHR. Audioboy wouldn't be my first choice, but he fits the format. It's a start!

Refreshed Golds/Recurrents: Definitely treading into KSMB territory here, cherrypicking a decent selection from dance, pop, hip-hop and rock equally. Every now and then, you'll be surprised with a "Baby Got Back" or something like that, but for the most part, it's kept 2003 onward.

New Jingles: TMStudios/Vineyard Studios Kissville (Z100 melody). Okay, KSMB doesn't have jingles anymore, but it's at least worth mentioning. I think Kissville sounds kind of cheap (I would have gone with the ReelWorld ONE jingles they were teasing with a couple of weeks ago) but at least it's not N2Effect!

Still needs to be done, in my opinion at least:

This back to the music faster business. Sure, it's nice to have breaks that last only two minutes, but when you're stopsetting every other song to meet your 10-12 minutes of inventory that hour, it gets kind of aggravating. I'd much rather put up with 4-minute spotsets if it means I get a good 20 minutes worth of programming.

Stevie G and T-Pot. The one Afternoon Swirl that I listened to, T-Pot called in sick and Stevie G had to run the show solo. No interaction with listeners at all; every time he cracked the mic, it was either a liner card read or about the baby. I'm sure it was cute at first, but I can see it as a major turn-off factor eight months later.

Top of the hour needs to be at the top of the hour, not coming in from the :15 break. This is just me being a picky radio guy. I noticed this starting to happen when they came back after Katrina. They run the calls coming in from the second break after :00.

Other than that, they're off to a good start to shake off the old "105.3 the Zone" stigma.
