Western North Carolina Public Radio’s “Blue Ridge Public Radio” is swapping the frequencies of its two networks starting on Monday, October 31.
The move will bring the service’s “BPR News” to a wider audience, while their Classical “BPR Classic” is slightly downgraded. The organization notes that its ‘Big Switch’ will increase the coverage area of its news-only programming channel to a reach of 525,000 people in its 14 counties in Western North Carolina, while BPR Classic will reach 275,000 people.
The Public News/Talk network will now be based on 88.1 WCQS Asheville and also air on 91.3 WFQS Franklin, 88.5 WMQS Murphy, 101.5 W268CL Brevard, 107.5 W298AY Black Mountain, 89.7 W209AD Clyde, 89.7 W209AE Cullowhee, 94.7 W234AS Bryson City, 99.3 W257DH Hendersonville, 103.3 W277CU Highlands, 91.5 W218AB Sylva, 101.5 W268BS Tryon, 102.9 W275BU Waynesville,
The “Classic” network moves to WCQS-HD2, 107.9 W300CR Asheville, 90.5 WZQS Cullowhee, 90.5 WYQS Mars Hill, 98.3 W252DN Balsam, 90.5 W275BU Brevard, 99.1 W256CY Bryson City, and 103.1 W276CT Hendersonville. It will continue to air some NPR News programming including Morning Edition, Fresh Air, All Things Considered, and Marketplace. Classical music programming will expand an extra hour from 9am to 3pm and 7 to 10pm and Jazz from 10pm to 12am.
