In a letter to listeners posted on the station’s website, Call Communications Christian CHR “Call Radio” announced its intent to shift its resources away from its FM signals to digital platforms.
In the letter titled, “A New Beginning, A Beginning’s End – Why we’re phasing out FM broadcasting”, General Manager Rob Robbins states that 82 percent of the network’s $200,000 annual operating budget goes towards maintaining the transmitters while its target teen audience only spend 10% of their music listening on FM. He writes that Call will focus on streaming and on-demand music, podcasts, high school sports, and live concerts and events while building a digital production studio and hire additional programming staff.
“Call Radio” is heard on 91.9 WMKL Hammocks/Miami, 91.9 WMYE Fort Myers, two stations in the Florida Keys and four translators. Robbins does not state their plans for the FM signals.
