Cumulus To Shutter WNAM

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
December 17, 2025

1280 WNAM Neenah-Menasha AppletonAfter shutting off 20 stations earlier this year, Cumulus Media is adding another one before the year is up.

Adult Standards 1280 WNAM Neenah-Menasha/Appleton WI will sign-off at midnight on December 31 ending a 78 year operation. Currently running Westwood One’s Standards network, the station had served as home of the Wisconsin Timber-Rattlers baseball team since 2009. Those games will move to Cumulus Conservative Talk 1490 WOSH/93.9 W230DB Oshkosh.

Cumulus Appleton Market Manager John Rowe said, “Cumulus Media is excited to continue our longstanding relationship with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for 2026. With the games being moved to 93.9FM and 1490AM WOSH, we’ll be rooting for the team along with the fans as we provide coverage for all 132 games on AM and now FM radio, as well as streaming options through 1490WOSH.COM, the WOSH app and Alexa and Google smart speakers.”

WNAM operates with 5kW directional utilizing a four tower array.

WNAM shared the following message on its website:

It’s hard to believe that WNAM 1280 AM first took to the airwaves on March 23, 1947 , more than 78ears ago. Since that day, we’ve had the privilege of being a trusted voice in your homes, cars, and workplaces. From timeless music and unforgettable personalities to vital storm coverage and community connection, WNAM has been more than just a radio station—it’s been a part of the fabric of our lives.

Over the decades, we’ve celebrated milestones, weathered storms, and shared countless moments with you, our loyal listeners. We’ve helped drive customers to local businesses, delivered breaking news, and hopefully made a small but meaningful difference in your day.

It has been our honor to serve as stewards of this legacy. However, after careful consideration, we must share that WNAM 1280 AM will cease broadcasting on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at midnight. This difficult decision comes in response to evolving listener habits and economic realities that have reshaped the media landscape.

To our listeners and advertisers—thank you. Your unwavering support over the past 78 years has meant everything to us. You made WNAM a part of your daily routine, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

For our dedicated fan base, we’re pleased to share that coverage of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will continue on our sister station, WOSH 1490 AM.

Radio legend Ira Glass once said, “In radio, you have two tools: sound and silence.” For more than seven decades, WNAM’s sound has echoed across the region, connecting generations. Now, as we prepare to gently fade into silence, we do so with pride in what we’ve built—and with heartfelt thanks to every employee who helped make WNAM a beacon of local broadcasting.

Please continue to tune in as we honor our final days on the air. From all of us at WNAM 1280 AM—thank you for listening.
