For the third time in three years, Mike Francesa has announced his departure from Entercom Sports 660 WFAN/101.9 WFAN-FM New York.

Francesa will host his final regularly scheduled show on the station on Friday, July 24. He told listeners this evening, “Tomorrow night will be my last regularly scheduled broadcast on the FAN. I have been discussing this with the company for a while. We agreed I would stay until sports came back. The reason – I have cut back dramatically. This has been a very strange year. It has made me think about different things and do different things.”

Francesa joined WFAN as a part-time host shortly after its 1987 launch. After a stint co-hosting middays, he was paired with Christopher ‘Mad Dog’ Russo in 1989 with “Mike & The Mad Dog” launching the station to success. Russo would leave in 2008 for SiriusXM with the program being rebranded as “Mike’s On”. Francesa first departed afternoons at WFAN in December 2017 after a two year retirement tour. He would quickly return in May 2018 for a briefer 3-6:30pm show which concluded at the end of 2019. Francesa then pivoted to hosting a show for Entercom’s Radio.com from 5-6pm followed by a 6-6:30pm slot on WFAN. During the the COVID-19 pandemic, Francesa’s show has aired from 6-7pm and he added a Sunday morning show on CBS Sports Radio.

In a statement Entercom New York SVP/Market Manger Chris Oliviero wrote, ““Mike has been the heart of WFAN for over 30 years, and though his day in and day out presence has come to an end, that bond happily will continue. “he future of WFAN as the premiere sports platform in New York is bright, and that is in large part to the foundation that Mike has helped build.”
