The San Diego Padres made the worst-kept secret in radio official on on Monday evening announcing that their games will air on 97.3 KEGY for the 2018 season.
The first game broadcast will be on Saturday, March 3 as one of a dozen Spring Training games the station will carry. 97.3 will also carry all regular season games. Ted Leitner, Jesse Agler and Tony Gwynn Jr. will remain in place as game broadcasters and Chris Ello as pre and post-game host. Those will be expanded from the 15 minute length they were on Alternative “FM 94.9” KBZT last season to one hour in length.
A full announcement on the flip of KEGY from CHR should be imminent.
Original Report 2/16: A change at Entercom CHR “Energy 97.3” KEGY San Diego is coming closer and closer to fruition.
Morning hosts Sean ‘Sonic’ Leckie and Tonya Gonzalez are off the air this morning with night host Marvy J filling in and making allusions to imminent changes coming. Midday host Alexia recently shifted to nights at Alternative “Alt 94.9” KBZT.
KEGY was moved off of 103.7 to 97.3 on the day its merger with CBS Radio closed in November after a weekend of being online only. That led to a sharp drop from a 2.2 share in the November PPM monthly to a 1.0 in the following two books.
While the expectation has been a flip to Sports to pair with Entercom’s carriage of the San Diego Padres (which were on KBZT last season), it now seems like a move to a Sports leaning Hot Talk position. Former “Mighty 1090” XEPRS morning host Dan Sileo, who stated last month he was moving to another station in the market, confirmed yesterday he will be heading to Entercom with “the ability to talk about anything”.
My new Show on @Entercom ….I get to talk about ANYTHING!!……so excited!!
