With its purchase of Conservative Talk 760 KFMB San Diego complete, iHeartMedia has announced that the station will change its call letters to KGB
The move was required by the sale of KFMB AM/FM from TEGNA to Local Media San Diego. 760 was then spun to iHeart for $1.2 Million in March.
The usage of KGB brings back the heritage three letter call letters to AM in San Diego as they were used on what is now 1360 KLSD from 1928 until 1982. KGB-FM has been in use by iHeart’s 101.5 since 1972, which allowed the company the ability to resurrect the calls on AM.
iHeartMedia San Diego announced today that the acquisition of AM 760 (KFMB-AM) from Local Media San Diego is complete. As a result of the acquisition agreement, the stations call letters will change to KGB-AM, effective July 4, 2020.
As part of terms of sale, TEGNA Inc. retained ownership of the KFMB-AM call letters, which required iHeartMedia to make the change. The Federal Communications Commission has approved the use of new call letters KGB for AM 760.
“The KGB call letters are legendary in San Diego and we’re excited to make them a part of AM 760’s next chapter as San Diego’s Talk station,” said Melissa Forrest, Market President iHeartMedia San Diego.
iHeartMedia began operating AM 760 KFMB under a local marketing agreement on March 17, 2020. The station will continue to broadcast its Talk format and full program lineup now that the change of ownership is complete.
